#TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 251, #ShareYourDay

WELCOME TO #TANKATUESDAY!

Colleen asks us are you ready to try a new challenge? #ShareYourDay is a way to get to know each other better. Take a photo and write a syllabic poem about your day. Don’t think on it too hard. Make it fun.

For this challenge, write your poem in one of the forms defined on the cheat sheet OR from the forms found on Poetscollective.org.

I have chosen to try The Sijo, I hope it is an acceptable form. A Korean form believed to have first been used in the fourteenth century. It is similar in structure to various Japanese forms such as Haiku. As with many forms of poetry, the Sijo became a preferred poetry form of the yangban or ruling class as well as royalty. They were written in Chinese and were originally short songs set to music. The focus of the Sijo is usually nature and contemplation.

There are three Lines in the Sijo
14-16 syllables per line
A total of 44-46 syllables for the entire poem.

My Sijo is a contemplation of those at war brought on by warmth and beauty in my kitchen. I was inspired by some of the flowers brought for me by our sons and grandsons on Mother’s Day.

Flowers in my Kitchen

Beautiful flowers in my kitchen, brightening my day.
Bringing hope and happiness on a dull and windy morning.
Safe in the heart of my home, I pray for peace for those at war.

******

33 words
44 syllables.

#TANKATUESDAY WEEKLY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 240, #THEMEPROMPT

WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!

It’s the fourth week of the month! This is our theme prompt. Vashti Quiroz-Vega, from last month’s challenge, picked the theme. Colleen is excited about this one… it’s something we’ve never done before!

This month’s theme is:

LULLABY.

I have chosen to write a Décima. The Décima is a Spanish form of poetry, though the term is also used to describe stanzas of ten lines. Each of the ten lines is made up of eight syllables and the rhyming scheme is abbaaccddc. I have written one stanza for my lullaby.

Lullaby.

Borne upon gossima soft wings
I transport you to a safe place
Rewarded by your smiling face
Listen as the nightingale sings
Of cotton clouds and gentle things.
Soon Morpheus will have you safe
Then I might follow with God’s grace.
Don’t stir, don’t cry hush now and sleep
Evil will not in your dreams creep
While we escape life’s crazy pace.

Mary and Jo Part 19

Today is the nintheenth day of Advent, leading up to Christmas. I would like to re-run my take on the Nativity story. I first wrote this in 2011, in the style of prosetry. Today’s chapter is actually a new one.

The animals and children came daily, the grown ups came at night. The path to the Hotel Delph was trod gaily and the place was full of love and light. So far it was locals and guests who visit the young couple somehow they were a secret well kept. The manger was delighted as his sales were up and the hotel was out of debt.

So it was a huge surprise when the camera crew from the local news arrived. Gabriel was not happy, he was not best pleased. In fact he actually was experiencing feelings , which put him ill at ease. Now luckily for Gabe the concierge was used to handling publicity, he said “Gabe my man relax and leave it all to me.”

So when they set their cameras up at the brake of day , David the consierge was out to greet them with a tale that would soon have them on their way.

David greeted them withs and hot coffee, he asked why they had picked the Delph hotel. They said they had come to see the young couple who had this place under a spell. “Oh! what a shame” smiled David, “you’ve missed them by just hours , but if you get a move on you’ll catch Posh and Becks as they arrive at The Staton Towers.”

Strangely this seemed to work a treat, and David smiled and waved as they drove off up the street. Gabe joined David on the forecourt .Gabe thanked him heartily and David said that playing with the press was just like sport.

So once again for now our secret is safe and Mares and Jo can relax again in their safe place.

Welcome to my “Heartland Echoes,” where I aim to share my poems with the world, along with my survival story and autobiography of childhood abuse, motivational quotes, and much more. Through my words, I hope to inspire others to share their own stories and experiences. Each poem is a piece of my heart and soul, along with a story of a traumatic past, crafted with inspiration, Hope, faith, love and passion. I believe that by sharing our art and emotions, I’ll be able to connect with others on a deeper level and create a sense of community.
