Hi sorry I am late, here is what LindaGHill’s email said yesterday. ”Well, this is it. Your thirtieth regular daily prompt for Just Jot it January 2024. I chose the word of the day myself. I’ll be back tomorrow with the final prompt of the month—the combination One-Liner Wednesday/JJJ24. And then, of course, we’ll have the wrap-up/we did it/where the heck did the time go post. So stay tuned!“
“Your prompt for JusJoJan January 30th, 2024 is “calendar.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
Today I looked at the calendar and I thought how busy last month has been ….but as from today and well into February I am going to be even busier! So I am taking the chance to apologise in advance for the fact that a lot of the February posts may be late, as is this post for JusJoJan, a day late, and also I maybe slow in commenting on your post and reading those comments on my posts.
Anyway why is the calendar so full? After the death of our beloved Ruby in April last year we have found our lives empty and a bit rudderless. So we grieved.
Well two months ago we took the plunge we decided to apply to become foster careers for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Our Ruby was a Guide Dog and we took her for her free run sessions as soon as she was working. She retired at 6 yes old and came to live with us for another seven years.
As it happened we had a big Red Letter day back in October we had our interview, we were accepted and vetted and were invited for training, which we passed.
Yesterday our first boarder arrived! Aya a beautiful black two year old Labrador. Aya is rather nervous and reactive to dogs when she is on the lead and noises and people passing windows can easily spook her. That said she is loving, and calm in the house and she has settled in very well .
Although Aya has past her training she is not going to be a guide dog. Her nervousness on the lead would make it impossible. She will be rehomed as a pet and she will make a perfect one of those. The day she is rehomed will be a red-letter day on her calendar!
As I said Aya is going back to her long term fosterer on 12th February in the Morning and out two gorgeous grandsons are coming here to stay for three days, then we are out with friends, then the whole are off to visit our eldest son in his new home ! Yes My Calendar is full.

Walking at First Light
I still miss her, following at my heels. In the early morning. She wrapped in her double fur coat, me shivering. We’d traipse the fields, the birds looking for food on the hard cold earth. She never threatened them curious she’d check out where they pecked. Now I greet the winter dawn alone these days, the crows still forage.
cold light breaks wrapping my coat close crows forage
Its Saturday and time for Linda G Hill‘s Stream of Consciousness Saturday. The email prompt arrived yesterday and said: “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “tune.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!“
This week we are dancing to a different tune, yes indeed. We are looking after our friend’s guide dog Quala. They are away on a holiday with the children and Quala is with us. It is strange how quickly you can get get attuned to a different dog…and believe me they are all so different. Quala is similar in looks to Ruby though not as blond and it’s surprising how different her character is . Both dogs trained to the same ridged standard yet they all have their own quirks.
Quala has her own routine and has quickly retuned ours! We do still miss Ruby but having Quala here is lovely, they were great friends and Quala’s owner always says Ruby made Quala the excellent guide dog she is today. Our chance meeting with our dogs those years ago was very fortunate. A dog’s love is worth a fortune .
Yes honest and true and loyal were you always by my side. You taught me so much , through thick and thin you respond to my touch. I miss your brown eyes, the feel of your soft coat and wet nose so much.
