Welcome to Haiku Fridays with J-Dub. Each week, I’ll post a haiku to spark reflection, emotion, or imagination.
Your challenge is simple: write your own haiku inspired by it—or on any theme that moves you—and share it in the comments.
Short, simple, powerful haiku—tiny poems that carry a big wallop. Capture a moment, a feeling, a memory—whatever comes through in 11 (3-5-3) or 17 (5-7-5) syllables. There’s no pressure, no judging, just a space to create and share.
This is about voice, reflection, and the quiet power of small poems.

Let the games continue.

This week Colleen Cheseboro is our host and she says “The summer solstice approaches and magic is in the air! Let go of all your worries, and write some moon magic inspired poetry!
This week, I’d like everyone to write a tanka Puente, featuring a quote of your choice from the Pioneer Woman: 75 Best Moon Quotes That Mirror the Magic of the SkyHERE.“
I have chosen this Moon Quote from Mark Twain.
“Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.” —Mark Twain
Above the city Hidden from the light she waits To launch into flight . She yearns for unending night
~Every nerve alert, breathing slow on the edge of orgasm she waits~
Inside her lust starts Pumping warm and red-blooded Fangs bared lost and scared Hearing the pounding of hearts Tears flow as extacy grows
Yvette M Calleiro invites us to write syllabic poetry, particularly cinquains, reflecting on beginnings and endings. She encourages the use of summer kigo words and emphasizes community engagement through reading and commenting on fellow poets’ work.
This week on Tanka Tuesday, she would like us to write an American cinquain, or one of its variations, about a beginning or an ending (or maybe both). For an extra challenge, use a kigo word associated with summer within your poem. There are many different types of cinquains you can choose from.
My kigo words are silver and moon .
Neverending.
Each night The chase begins Silver moon pursues Sun Ceaselessly they chase eachother Pointless

🌾🌧️ About Grain Rain 🌾🌧️
As we enter the last two weeks of April, the Pentads come into play again. They are much smaller bites of time, only five days each!
🪻Can you believe it? We will begin the season of summer on MAY 5th!! 🪻
How does this time of year affect you where you live? Think about the seasonal changes. What descriptive words come to mind? If they work to define the season you’re in, add them to your kigo list.
I have chosen to write an Abhanga. Which should be written in any number of 4-line stanzas with 6-6-6-4 syllables each. L2 and L3 rhyme. The end rhyme scheme is abbc. It is customary to title your poem. My Kigo words are , April showers, April Moons, flooding, rainbows, seedlings in the earth, blossom and Wisteria.
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “oo.” Find a word with “oo” in it or just use “oo” because why not? Whatever you decide on, use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!
Give me a teaspoon of moonlight To brighten this dark chilly night Add four ounces of moonflower Six eggs and some magic too What do you get chilly mooncake!
Jump through hoops Leap through scoops Fly high looping loops Danger ensues if your tail feather droops.
Bloodlust under the moon Vampires can get boozy The smell of blood makes them oozy. The ladies among them swoon
Why did we not say more, why did we not do more, to help. We sorted the rubbish, measured the water, unplugged plugs. Unfortunately time ran out, there’s no point to regret our planets demise.
Standing on the edge of tomorrow bathed in nights silver He felt regret, he was alone, she would be here soon all golden and fresh faced. She approached he ran, unable to deny his nature.
As day gives way to night, our dreams fight to survive. Our minds produce our hopes and fears, as night leaves the day in tears. The moon and sun continue the chase , the stars watch on to see who will win.
This week Jim Adams has past the baton for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday theme to King Ben’s Grandma ! So what is the subject she has chosen? Heavenly Bodies, Planets, Moon, Sun, Stars.
Back in 1981, two years before our third and last child was born, I was busy working and bringing up the boys, hubby was away a lot and a big hit of the time was Star. I remember the song with affection, I sang it a lot and even now it often visits me in the guise of an ear worm!

Pauline Matthews (born 6 March 1947), better known by her stage name Kiki Dee, is an English singer. Known for her blue-eyed soul vocals, she was the first female singer from the UK to sign with Motown’s Tamla. Perfect Timing is a 1981 album by British singer Kiki Dee. The album marked a brief comeback for the singer, led by the top 20 single “Star”. It was her only album on Ariola Records and reached No.47 on the UK album charts. The title track was also released, peaking at No.66. Two further singles were released; “Midnight Flyer” and “Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever” (a duet with Elton John). The album was produced by Pip Williams.
My dad taught me a lot about classical music, some of which I remember with great affection. One of these I remember with great affection was Gustav Holst’s The Planets. My favourite was Jupiter, the bringer of Joy.
.
The Planets, Op. 32, is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1917. In the last movement the orchestra is joined by a wordless female chorus. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its supposed astrological character.
The premiere of The Planets was at the Queen’s Hall, London on 29 September 1918, conducted by Holst’s friend Adrian Boult before an invited audience of about 250 people. Three concerts at which movements from the suite were played were given in 1919 and early 1920. The first complete performance at a public concert was given at the Queen’s Hall on 15 November 1920 by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Albert Coates.
The innovative nature of Holst’s music caused some initial hostility among a minority of critics, but the suite quickly became and has remained popular, influential and widely performed. The composer conducted two recordings of the work, and it has been recorded at least 80 times subsequently by conductors, choirs and orchestras from the UK and internationally.
I also threw in a great rock/heavy metal version.
I always loved Donovan, so many hippy dippy memories come to life every time I hear his Scottish lilt! I can’t believe it was released in 1966 it sounds so much as if it should of come from a much earlier era say the 70s.
“Sunshine Superman” is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. The “Sunshine Superman” single was released in the United States through Epic Records (Epic 5-10045) in July 1966, but due to a contractual dispute the United Kingdom release was delayed until December 1966, where it appeared on Donovan’s previous label, Pye Records (Pye 7N 17241). The “Sunshine Superman” single was backed with “The Trip” on both the United States and United Kingdom releases. It has been described as “[one of the] classics of the era”, and as “the quintessential bright summer sing along”.
Sunshine came softly through my a-window today Could’ve tripped out easy a-but I’ve a-changed my ways It’ll take time, I know it but in a while You’re gonna be mine, I know it, we’ll do it in style ‘Cause I made my mind up you’re going to be mineI’ll tell you right now Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find Everybody’s hustlin’ just to have a little scene When I say we’ll be cool I think that you know what I mean We stood on a beach at sunset, do you remember when? I know a beach where, baby, a-it never ends When you’ve made your mind up forever to be mineHmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm I’ll pick up your hand and slowly blow your little mind ‘Cause I made my mind up you’re going to be mine I’ll tell you right now Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can findSuperman or Green Lantern ain’t got a-nothin’ on me I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea, yeah A you-you-you can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne ‘Bout all the rainbows a-you can a-have for your own When you’ve made your mind up forever to be mine I’ll pick up your hand and slowly blow your little mind When you’ve made your mind up forever to be mineI’ll pick up your hand I’ll pick up your handSource: LyricFind.
R.E.M. what can I say ….. simply the best?
“Man On The Moon,” which appeared on R.E.M.’s eighth album, Automatic For The People, was a massive hit in 1992 and remains one of R.E.M.’s most popular tunes. It is the only entry in this list of songs about the Moon to deal with the conspiracy theories about the 1969 moon landing being faked. Mike Mills, who was credited as a co-writer of “Man On The Moon,” said that they had deliberately written about Andy Kaufman in the song because of odd theories that the comedian had faked his death. “He’s the perfect ghost to lead you through this tour of questioning things,” Mills said in 2018. “Did the Moon landing really happen? Is Elvis really dead? Kaufman was kind of an ephemeral figure at that point, so he was the perfect guy to tie all this stuff together as you journey through childhood and touchstones of life.”
Welcome to my “Heartland Echoes,” where I aim to share my poems with the world, along with my survival story and autobiography of childhood abuse, motivational quotes, and much more. Through my words, I hope to inspire others to share their own stories and experiences. Each poem is a piece of my heart and soul, along with a story of a traumatic past, crafted with inspiration, Hope, faith, love and passion. I believe that by sharing our art and emotions, I’ll be able to connect with others on a deeper level and create a sense of community.
