Ping went my phone , it was LindaGHill with our Friday Reminder for Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Here’s what she had to say. “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “miss.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!“
Well to start with I missed this by two days! So it’s not Saturday it’s Monday!
Take four girls
Miss Opertunity had three friends they were called Miss Adventure, Miss Managed and Miss Timed. They were always getting into trouble. If they had to go anywhere or do anything together it was totally chaotic! If Miss Timed was in charge of arrangements they were always too early or too late for any transport they had booked, they usually arrive at places that were just shutting! Miss Opertunity was always bewailing how she’d not had the breaks in life and most of her sentences started with “if only I’d.” Miss Adventure was a nightmare she spent all her time having accidents, by not being careful or thinking first. Only last week she went off into the desert without water or sun cream or even a hat! Then there was Miss Managed the worst of the four…. dare I say more ?
Now for the serious part of this post I am having to take some indefinite time off due to family illness and I just can’t cope…so I am taking some time out…. I will miss you all. I will pop in and out . I shall he hosting Tanka Tuesday on the 30th .. so forgive me if I am slow to comment on your entries or reply to your comments… but I shall make sure I do not miss any of you. If I do miss anyone please email me . So pleased bear with me I will be back ASAP… this is something that has really just landed on me ….as these things do. So there is no misunderstanding I shall miss you all and I will be back.

Below is an A.I. picture of dancers back in the 90s at Warehouse rave. This is not my son in the foreground with the dreadlocks but it certainly could have been
I am going to express my appreciation of music through dance and for a change not my music or my dancing … No I am going back to 90s illegal Raves, Garage,House and oddly Europop. My eldest was in his early twenties back then and this was his culture… Not that he was into Europop but he was into these huge warehouse raves… Often illegal as they were held in empty warehouses there for low on safety measures but high on excitement and great dance music. Yes he had very eclectic tastes from Pink Floyd , The Prodigy, The Alabama 3 and everything in between. He was still going to Glastonbury every year back then. He remembers the days when you could still climb the fences to get in. But back to to the dancing and the raves .. that music is so infectious and dare I say danceable. First up Snap and Rhythm is a Dancer.
“Rhythm Is a Dancer” is a song by German Eurodance group Snap!, released in March 1992 by Arista and Logic Records as the second single from their second studio album, The Madman’s Return (1992). It features vocals by American singer Thea Austin. The song is written by Benito Benites, John “Virgo” Garrett III (aliases for German producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti) and Austin, and produced by Benites and Garrett III. It was an international success, topping the charts of France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The single also reached the top five on the US BillboardHot 100 and number one on the BillboardDance Club Songs chart. It spent six weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart, becoming the second-biggest-selling single of 1992. Its accompanying music video was directed by Howard Greenhalgh and filmed in Florida.
“Rhythm Is a Dancer” was originally not planned to be released as a single. Good club reactions to the track made Snap!’s German label, Logic, change their minds. Logic arranged a private test at its own discotheque, the Omen, to see how well the public responded to the new song. This is where the instant club appeal of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” first came to notice. Rapper Turbo B, who rejected the song when he first heard it, would go on to add a rap stanza to the track. Snap! won the 1992 Echo Award for the Best Selling Single of the Year with “Rhythm Is a Dancer”
Rhythm is a dancer, it’s a soul’s companion You can feel it everywhere Lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us You can feel it in the air
Oh-oh, it’s a passion Oh-oh, you can feel it in the air Oh-oh, it’s a passion Oh-oh, oh, oh, oh
Rhythm is a dancer, it’s a soul’s companion You can feel it everywhere Lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us You can feel it in the air
Oh-oh
How very like the future this place might be It’s a tiny world just big enough to support the cubicle of one knowledge worker I feel a wave of loneliness, head back down But I’m going too fast
Rhythm is a dancer, it’s a soul’s companion You can feel it everywhere Lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us You can feel it in the air
Oh-oh
I plunge right on through the office door and into the bottomless indigo below Suddenly, I can’t remember how to stop, turn around Do I point behind myself? Do I have to turn around before I can point? I flip into a brain fugue
Rhythm is a dancer, it’s a soul’s companion You can feel it everywhere Lift your hands and voices, free your mind and join us You can feel it in the air
“The Rhythm of the Night” is a song by Italian Eurodance group Corona. It was released as their debut single in 1993 in Italy, then elsewhere the following year. The song is the title track of the group’s debut studio album of the same name (1995), and was written by Francesco Bontempi, Annerley Emma Gordon, Giorgio Spagna, Pete Glenister and Mike Gaffey. It was produced by Bontempi, and the vocals were performed by Italian singer Giovanna Bersola (a.k.a. Jenny B), who is not credited on the single and does not appear in the music video due to her stage fright. The woman who appears in the video is the group’s frontwoman Olga Souza. It was directed by Giacomo de Simone and received heavy rotation on European music TV-channels. “The Rhythm of the Night” was a worldwide hit in 1994, peaking at number one in Italy entering the top five in most of Europe and Australasia, while in the United States, it reached number 11 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 charts. In 2022 and 2025, “The Rhythm of the Night” was ranked among the best dance songs of all time by Rolling Stone and Billboard magazine.
At the time she got the gig, Italian singer Giovanna Bersola suffered from stage fright, and would only be doing studio work. Brazilian singer Olga Souza would be fronting the song on stage and tour instead of Bersola, as well as in its accompanying music video. Bersola told in a 2021 interview, “The studio was safe for me, it was no windows, just me and the music. It was a time when dance and euro house music was very prolific in Europe and I was living in Italy at the time, so I was singing three or four songs a day as a session voice.” Regarding Souza fronting the group instead of her and the fact that they didn’t use Bersola’s image on the single cover, she felt that it suited her, “That gave me the freedom to be absolutely no one.” Bersola is no longer suffering from stage fright and now lives in New Zealand.”The Rhythm of the Night” was released in 1993 in Italy, and the following year, it was released internationally.

Ping went my phone … It was this week’s SoCs prompt from our very busy and efficient host Linda G Hill. Here’s what she said. “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “love.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun, and happy Valentine’s Day!”
Jump she said , How high? Was his gentle reply. He would do anything for her Yet she scorned him and treated him like a cur. Presents he lavished on her daily She accepted them then dismissed him gayly She was always on her way out Never a thank you, her mouth a permanent pout. One day he could take no more So he pushed a note through her door. “I can’t go on trying to win your favour. I am wasting my time, it shows in your behaviour. He was gone and she was on her own She was shocked to the core, cut right to the bone. She really had not realized how much he’d done for her No she did not see she loved him til he was no longer there!
Using my own instructions for Tanka Tuesday “To this week, choose any form you’d like to create. Let’s use synonyms for the words “love & passion.” That means you must not use the words love or passion in your poem, only synonyms for those words. I have chosen an Abhanga in any number of 4-line stanzas with 6-6-6-4 syllables each. L2 and L3 rhyme. The end rhyme scheme is abbc. It is customary to title your poem
Love & Passion
Her brown eyes said it all Fervently doted on me Her life she’d lay down free We were her all.
Defend me to the end I am her guiding light Her presence makes life bright God spelled backwards.

It’s A Miracal
Black, black the sky, cold the winds blow
Across the miles by the light of stars progress was slow.
She was slight but with child. Tired and near her time.
They had to travel though, the census to sign.
They arrived late after many days travel and there was no place to stay.
She was too tired to chide her man for his incompetence

This week Yvette is our host for Tanka Tuesday. Here is what she has to say about her prompt.“So, for this week, I thought we would focus on the word gift. You can choose the noun or verb version. You can write about a favorite gift you’ve received or one you have given. You can create a poem about the act of gifting. If you’d like, you can focus on the materialist side or the emotional aspect of gifts.”
I agree whole heartedly, the gift of love and time are worth more than expensive gifts and money. I have chosen a two stanza Abhanga for my entry this week.
The best gift is love Your time and friendship too It costs nothing, that true Yet beyond worth.
We’ll always have this bond Such a lasting present. The children heaven sent We gave them life
Such a poignant moment at the festival of remembrance on Saturday Night. The children of soldiers who gave their lives in battle . Carrying the book of remembrance. Sam Ryder sang a song about parenting made all the more significant by the fact that these children had lost a parent to war. … Nothing can compensate for this but Sam sings that their lost ones are willing them on from beyond the grave.
Welcome to my “Heartland Echoes,” where I aim to share my poems with the world, along with my survival story and autobiography of childhood abuse, motivational quotes, and much more.
