Song Lyric Sunday: Motorcycle heaven. 🏍️🏍️🏍️💨💨💨🏍️🏍️

January 11, 2026 and this week Jim Adams our regular host for Song Lyric Sunday has enlisted the help of Di from pensitivity101. Well Di’s prompt is a Song that includes a mode of transport, either going by land (road or rail), water, or air.

I have picked three songs with the same title ! Two are the same song but the third is a real headbanger! I hope you enjoy.

Here we go Harley Davidson by Marianne Faithful. 1968 I had just met hubby. The header photo is of that day, coloured an enhanced by my clever sister in law.

The Girl on a Motorcycle (FrenchLa Motocyclette) is a 1968 erotic romantic drama film directed by Jack Cardiff, starring Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull. It is based on the 1963 novel La Motocyclette by André Pieyre de Mandiargues. Released as Naked Under Leather, it was the first film to receive an X rating in the United States, and edited by Warner Brothers for an “R” rating. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the May 1968 events in France.

The film is set in France and Germany. Newly married Rebecca leaves her husband Raymond’s bed on her prized motorbike—her symbol of freedom and escape. During her ride to visit Daniel, her lover in Heidelberg, she indulges in psychedelic and erotic reveries as she relives her changing relationship with the two men. Her flashback scenes reveal the background story. Rebecca met Daniel while working at her father’s bookshop a few weeks before her marriage to Raymond, a school teacher. Daniel gives Rebecca motorcycle driving lessons on a Norton Atlas motorcycle. They quickly become lovers. She asks him if he will marry her, and he simply says “No”. She tells him that she is soon to be married, and he says he will give her a wedding present. A Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle is delivered to Rebecca at the bookshop. Her father says she should refuse it, but she asks Raymond what she should do and he says she should do what will make her happy. She rides the motorcycle from France to Germany to be with Daniel. After having several drinks of kirsch in a small village bar, she drives fast and recklessly, and although she wears leathers she has no helmet, and her ride to Daniel ends prematurely when she collides with a truck which swerves in front of her, throwing her head-first through the windscreen of an oncoming car, which then crashes into the truck. I don’t need anyone on a Harley Davidson
Je n’ai besoin de personne en Harley Davidson

I don’t recognize anyone on a Harley Davidson anymore
Je n’reconnais plus personne en Harley Davidson

I press the starter
J’appuie sur le starter

And here I am leaving the Earth
Et voici que je quitte la Terre

I might go to heaven but on a hellish train
J’irai peut-être au paradis mais dans un train d’enfer

I don’t need anyone on a Harley Davidson
Je n’ai besoin de personne en Harley Davidson

I don’t recognize anyone in a Harley Davidson anymore
Je ne reconnais plus personne en Harley Davidson

What if I die tomorrow
Et si je meurs demain

This was my destiny
C’est que tel était mon destin

I value life much less than my terrible machine
Je tiens bien moins à la vie qu’à mon terrible engin

When I feel on the way
Quand je sens en chemin

The tremors of my machine
Les trépidations de ma machine

Desires rise up in the hollow of my back
Il me monte des désirs dans le creux de mes reins

I don’t need anyone on a Harley Davidson
Je n’ai besoin de personne en Harley Davidson

I don’t recognize anyone on a Harley Davidson anymore
Je n’reconnais plus personne en Harley Davidson

I go to over 100
Je vais à plus de 100

And I feel like I’m on fire
Et je me sens à feu et à sang

What does it matter to me to die with my hair blowing in the wind?
Que m’importe de mourir les cheveux dans le vent

What does it matter to me to die with my hair blowing in the wind?
Que m’importe de mourir les cheveux dans le vent

The song was written by Gainsbourg during his short affair with Bardot. According to the Swiss 24 heures, those were extremely prolific “inspired days and sleepless nights” for Gainsbourg, when he wrote several cult songs including this one.

Gainsbourg recalled in a 1972 interview to Paris Match: “I suggested we listen to ‘Harley Davidson’. At her place, we were like two cats, observing each other, almost in confrontation. We were overwhelmed by utter shyness and riddled with stage fright.” He continued: “When she sang ‘Que m’importe de mourir en Harley Davidson’ (‘What do I care about dying on a Harley-Davidson‘), those words hit me like a ton of bricks; they were incredibly sensual. On the night of the recording, our lives merged into a continuous current that nothing could divide. The flash was blinding, and our passion was magnificent.

The original version by Bridget Bardot

Then there is this ! By ABCD

The tour is over and I’m goin’ home
Home to my baby, the bike of my own
So good to feel her, so nice and so clean
Hard to believe it, she’s just like a dream

We’re drivin’ out to the countryside
Buy a sixpack we’ve got the time
I’m gonna tell my girl to move
’cause I´ve got real love to prove

Anytime I wanna, every time I can
I’ll escape on my Harley-Davidson
Anytime I wanna, every time I can
I’ll escape on the highway

Gonna get married as soon as we can
When I tell the church, the shit hits the fan
I’m gonna buy her all the gas she needs
Fill her up with love, burning on the wheels

We’re drivin’ out to the countryside
Makin’ love in the morning light
Don’t have to pray for her to stay
’cause I´ve got my bike anyway..

I don’t own the rights to this song and video.

The lyrics for “Harley-Davidson” by the band ABCD (or A.B.C.D.) start with the lines: “The tour is over and I’m goin’ home / Home to my baby, the bike of my own / So good to hear her, so nice and so clean / Hard to believe it, she’s just like a…”. The song is about returning to a beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle after a tour, expressing affection for the machine.

The lyrics for the song “Harley-Davidson” by the band AB/CD were written by Nalcolm

The song was released on their album The Rock ‘n’ Roll Devil in 1988. You can find the lyrics on websites like Genius and view the song on YouTube

My favourite is definitely Marianne Faithful because she was a heroine offender mine!

Stream of Conciousness Saturday: Will you be Ready?

This  is  part  of LindaGHill‘s Stream of Concious Saturday  here is  the pingbak.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “ Ready.”  Choose one, fact, fiction, poetry or prose it is up to you. Have fun!

Ready

Will you be ready  for this, really  are  you ready  for this? I am  but I  cannot  attend  the  meeting of  minds  that  is  The Annual  Blogger’s Bash!  See here    They  will be  swarming  towards  the British  Library  to  meet  at 11am  then  mouching off to  Pizza Hut! for 12.30.

Some  will no  doubt  be already  on their  way. There will be  awards I have  voted, I was ready  to  give  my vote. There obviously  is  a counter  move  to  stop  this  event or at least  to  throw  a spanner in  the  works!! What  I  hear  you  all gasp…who  would  do this . Well if  you are  sitting   and  ready  for  the anwser  I  shall tell you ! The  first  distraction  tactic  is  The  Prudential London  Ride  terrifying  enough in itself  and  threatening  to  bring  the entire  capital  to  a  gringing halt. The  second  and in a way  laughable distraction  tactic  is  a meeting  in  Parliament  Square  Westminster  where hundreds of people are planning to inhale laughing gas outside Parliament in a mass protest against a planned government crackdown on ‘legal highs’. …… sounds like  the ABBAs and BOOBs might  be  behind  this!

So  all I  can do  as I am unable  to attend  is  to hope  that  all those  attending   The Annual  Bloggers Bash  are  ready  to  have a great time  I  do  wish I  was with you  all , I  shall  be in  spirit ( Bacardi  and  coke please) .

Those of us  unable  to  go  will expect lots of  info, reports  and photos!! The  other  question  is , is  London  ready  for  three  major  events?  Is  the  end of  the  world  nigh?  read Tangental’s take on  things  here ( he is  a big  noise in the  BOOB  and ABBAs )

So will you  be ready ?    Have  a great  time  Bloggers  I hope  to  be  allowed  to be ready  for  the  next  one!!

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. Linda will post the prompt  on her blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance,  Linda  will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” or “Begin with the word ‘The’.”

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that Linda  and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of Linda’s post into yours.  Your link will show up in Linda’s comments, for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on Linda’s post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. Have fun!
