Gloria’s Afternoon Tea.

Yesterday Gloria returned to the Aquaroom and there was a Glorious afternoon tea party hosted by Jennie and Katy. Who is Katy ? She is Gloria’s English friend.

Well why don’t you all pop across to Jennie’s blog to see the celebrations.

Here’s what I had to say.

Jennie this really made me cry. How wonderful to see Gloria home safe in the Aquaroom with all her friends who have missed her so much. It truly filled my heart to see everyone so very happy!

Jennie you are so correct the whole world could learn so much from Gloria, you and the Aquaroomers! I hope the Aquaroomers past present and future all carry Gloria’s values with them . Perhaps in some small way they will be able to help the world.

Well Aquaroomers I do not know Katy (Sheffield is a long way from Berkshire ) but she looks like a lovely lady and I can say emphatically that any friend of Gloria’s is a friend of mine.

Its wonderful to see so many happy faces in the photos, it’s obvious how much Gloria is loved. The fact that she is already off on her weekend jaunts with the Aquaroomers is testament to how much she was missed. We miss Gloria she is a star.

Marsha Ingrao talks about her new book. Embracing the Power to Live.

Hi Marsha do make yourself at home and tell us why you are here. I have refreshments ready so help yourself.

willow, I am so thrilled and honored that you agreed to host me as I launch my first book of poetry. I hope your readers will sense how those activities renewed my joy as I discovered writing syllabic poetry inspired by my photos. Thank you for letting me share a short stint of that journey.

It’s a pleasure Marsha and my honour. I have read your book in it’s early form and I love it. Do have a cuppa and tell us about it.

Embracing the Power to Live isn’t a step-by-step self-help book—do these ten things, and you’ll be an instant success. It is a poetic memoir full of hits and misses that you’ll enjoy if you listen with your head full of dreams.
Have you ever wondered what to do with some of your favorite photos? Writing poems gave several of my photos a new purpose in life. The contrast between the courthouse and the sky in this photo took my breath away when I saw it. As an amateur photographer, I love using a photo as the muse for a short poem like this poem I wrote last March.
(tanka)
(from Embracing the Power to Live)

a cold spring wind blows
shadows against the Courthouse
justice nears day’s end
dark skies threaten hopeful buds
the Courthouse clock chimes springtime.

That’s a beautiful Tanka Marsha and , yes I can see why your photo so inspired you! Do tell us more.

Non-fiction has been my go-to style of writing, and photos about which I know details work well with my writing style. It is more difficult for me to write about other people’s pictures. For example, I started to write a poem about my favorite grandparents on their wedding day because I had pictures.

*****
Grandma’s Wedding Day
(from Embracing the Power to Live)

Wedding day of long ago
I thought I knew them well
But when I began to write
I was a stranger

I get what you are saying Marsha but that is a beautiful verse and those photos are truly beautiful. What else inspires you beside the photos.

I know you love all kinds of music, willow, and I love that about your posts. Sometimes, a song will pop into my head and beg me to write a poem, or at least the title, to the beat of the music. This next poem was inspired by the song Lonely Boy.

******
Oh, What a Lonely Bird

One October morning, my brother and I wanted to open the door and let in this little guy when we saw him walking in the deserted Michigan Dunes State Park parking lot.

winter in the air
a fierce wind clawed his feathers
as he searched for food

Had all his friends flown south for the winter and left him behind? Did he stay behind because he wanted all the picnic leftovers for himself?

empty tables swept
clear of remaining breadcrumbs
no one to beg from

*****

I really loved that poem about the gull it truly touched my heart when I first read it. Do you enjoy reading poetry Marsha?

Yes willow reading poetry is an experience to savor even if it won’t solve all your problems and soothe all your pain. If you’ve enjoyed these samples, I’d love it if you picked up my book and shared it with friends who would enjoy the ride. Reviews are always welcome, too!
willow, thanks again for helping me launch Embracing the Power to Live on your blog. It’s been fun and such an honor. :).

The honour was all mine Marsha it was a real pleasure to have you visit and tell us all about the new poetry book Embracing the Power to Live.

Here are this week’s questions: and my answers.

1 Do you like decorating or would you prefer to have someone come in and do it for you if you could afford it?

Oh! I would love to have someone in to do the decorating for me. Hubby insists he can still do it so he does and that makes me the gofa, assistant, tidier uppa and refreshments maker on top of everything else I already have to do.

  1. Do you prefer papered or painted walls in your home?
    No preference I like both.
  2. Where do you go when you want to be alone or have some quality Me Time?
Bed! …in my dreams… I don’t have much but I can usually find a corner for a few minutes.
  3. If you buy a treat for yourself (say a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine) do you like to share?

Yes indeed I love to share there’s no fun in a treat if you can’t share it.

Gratitude:
Hubby and I have eachother we have walked a long way together.

A Chat with Dan Antion about When Evil Chooses You and Exciting New Cover Reveal.

.

There’s somebody at the door, is it a delivery Alexa ? No it’s Dan . He’s here today so we can discuss the three books in his Knuckleheads Series. I have actually just read book three When Evil Chooses you.

Hi Dan come on through let’s sit in the garden while we have the weather, I have some Caronas with wedges of lime chilled and ready under the new pergola.

© willowdot21

Here Dan have a beer and relax. Now I remember that The Evil You Choose was going to be a single book and Knuckleheads grew out of a need to tell the backstory. When did you decide to write a sequel?

Well willow when I started writing The Evil You Choose, Thomas Slocum was going to be my evil character. Unfortunately, I wasn’t familiar with keeping characters in line with my expectations of them. I would finish a chapter, reread it and think, “he doesn’t sound particularly evil.” Beta readers also told me that Slocum seemed conflicted in his role. About a quarter of the way into the book, I wrote a scene in Agent Slocum’s office where Grayson Dyer came in. Zach didn’t really meet him, but when he left, Agent Slocum said: “Now that’s a dangerous man, Zach.” Zach observed that “He looked as if he wished he hadn’t said that.” That’s when I knew that there would be another book.

That’s really interesting Dan I completely understand what you are saying about charters not really behaving as you want them to . Sometimes it’s like they have minds of their own. I am glad you added Dyer because I could feel Slocum definitely had two sides to him.

Can I offer you something to eat we could order on some chicken wings or a pizza . How about a meat fest yes? Right I am on it.

You suggested in the second book that “good and bad aren’t binary concepts.” You continued to cast people as having both good and evil elements in When Evil Chooses You. Is this something you believe, or just something that worked for the books?

I know you’re a Star Trek fan, willow, so you probably remember the episode where Kirk is split into his good and evil halves. I think almost every human character trait exists on a spectrum, including good and evil. This is something my father taught us, and something I have observed in coworkers and other people that I’ve met. Characters like Grayson Dyer lean toward evil, where characters like Thomas Slocum, Geno DeLito, Cynthia Leman and a few others have their moments when they are closer to the good side of the spectrum. Of course, sometimes, even the good guys have to break the rules.

Again I agree with you here Dan, everyone has two sides usually kept in tow but every now and then the façade slips sometimes it reveals the person’s true character sometimes it’s just an aberration. The important thing is to know which is which. It also explains the use of evil in the titles.

Ah! The Pizza has arrived ! I have made a salad too.

So when Evil Chooses You begins right after The Evil You Choose ends. It’s almost a continuous story. Was that always your plan? It certainly has that feel.

Yes willow all the books in the Dreamer’s Alliance Series are in a continuous sequence. Knuckleheads, as you may recall, is set in the 1960s, but it’s a story that Zach told Abbey two days before The Evil You Choose begins. The fourth and final book in the series begins shortly after the third book ends. I always wanted it to be that way. The hard part was not giving that away at the end of the first book.

Thank you willow this pizza is good, I see you have your favourite too, ham and pineapple! The salade is not bad either what is the dressing ?

This one is my own recipe , virgin oil, balsamic vinegar with a dash of of apple cider vinegar and the other is blue cheese and there’s also mayonnaise and ketchup here too. Back to the book why did you have Billy narrate the third book as well as be a character in the book?

What can I say, people like Billy. Billy and Cynthia Leman were originally going to be minor characters in the second book—Cynthia Leman was supposed to die within two chapters. After Knuckleheads was released, a lot of people told me they really liked Billy. One of my author friends told me not to worry about the readers, but I have a hard time ignoring their comments. I figure, if I’ve created a character that people like or can relate to, I should hang onto that character. Billy seemed like a good fit to be an omniscient narrator. Similarly, people seem to like Cynthia Leman more than I thought they would.

I have to say Dan I find Billy as an essential character. He has really grown and to my mind he bings the storyline together. Did you have trouble writing Billy in both roles?

I only had trouble with the parts where Billy is considering or sharing his own thoughts. I used a different format for those sections, to try to indicate to the reader when that’s going on.

Hang on I need a drink can I get you another? Yup okay coming up. You’ve mentioned that there is another book in the series. What made you decide to write one more book?

I wasn’t planning on writing another book, but again, the readers had something to say. Several people told me they wanted to see more of this crew. Several felt that I left more than a few questions unanswered. I tried ignoring those suggestions. I created a new character and a new story, but I kept getting dragged back into the series. I came to accept that Knuckleheads is really the backstory and that the other three books are a trilogy. I’ve made peace with that decision, and I like the next story a lot.

That’s really exciting Dan and I am all for hearing more about Zach and co, this is one of those stories where the characters get into your head and heart and leave you wanting more. So cheers to the next book.

Secrets Against Evil. ©Dan Antion.

Excellent isn’t it! I can’t wait to read it! Remember you saw it first here!

********

Now let’s go back to the beginning here are my reviews on the first three books in the Dreamers Alience.

Book 1 Knuckleheads. What I think .

Well here is what I loved about this book. It captivates you immediately. It’s like a social history of life set in the era and area that Dan himself grew up in.

The tale of the two friends with unusual special powers …not really your ‘normal’ super powers but to be honest more intriguing and amazing. It’s great to see these two lads grow together as friends and allies. The way they help each other through school even when separated by circumstances!

I really enjoyed every part of the book, Zach’s family were beautifully portrayed especially his father who helped both boys. I also learned a lot about the running of a bowling alley and also how mechanisation changed things! Also how both sides of the criminal line were bonded together. I am saying no more just do read Knuckleheads!

Book 2 The Evil you choose. What I think.

My feelings on this book are totally woo! The tingle factor. It truly brings the whole story together and it is a really brilliant read. Zach and Billy are now both older guys who are retired when ghosts from their past come to visit them.

Zach’s brother plays a bigger part in this book as does Zach’s Daughter! Everything that happens in the first book plays a part in this one.

All I can say is that these books are brilliant and I highly recommend them. I strongly suggest that you suspend the every day and read them, you will not regret it.

Book3 When Evil Chooses you: What I think.

What can I say about book three in The Dreamers Alliance? When Evil Chooses You, it’s a roller coaster of emotions, they are all there.
Firstly let me say though you could read each book as a stand alone but you will gain so much enjoyment if you read the entire series starting with book one Knuckle Heads. This way you meet all the characters and learn about who they are and which side of good and evil they fall. The line of good and evil is not always clear in some cases but it all makes sense as the story unfolds.
In this the third book in the series we find that far from being free from the maniacal FBI agent Grayson Dyer, Zach finds he is even more caught up in this one man’s venance party .
Not only is Dyer on a one man campaign to bring down senator Cutter (who he sees as being a major factor in his father’s suicide) but also he has a gangster, a policewoman, a pastor and anyone else who happens to get in his way in his sights.
As the body count rises Zack’s family and life long friend, Billy, are dragged further into the action.
The whole situation takes a turn for the worse for all concerned especially Zach. Friends and allies appear from the most unlikely places ! And the twists in the tale will leave you breathless..
To summarize, When Evil Chooses You, is a must read and I for one was left hoping there’s more to come … 🤞 A very suspenseful page turner!

Geoff Le Pard and his New Book. Life Death and Other Characters.

“There’s motion at the front door” Thanks Alexa that will be Geoff. ” Hi Geoff I see you’ve not come alone this time! Come on in we don’t want your, err friend alarming the neighbours they have only just got over your last visit . He arrived on my doorstep looking like this last time!

© Geoff Le Pard.

Right Geoff, can I offer you and your friend a cuppa or a cold drink?

Coffee fine, pardon. Not your friend, Oh! It goes right through him. While I get us coffee and cake tell me Geoff where did the idea for this great book come from?…. And who is that guy standing in the corner wearing a grin and a dark cloak?

While I started blogging for other reasons, I came across prompts fairly soon and was hooked. I found that having to write to a word count – though not every prompt I’ve followed imposed this requirement – made me better at writing succinct prose. I also became more comfortable leaving the reader to make up their mind what the story meant, where it might go. That has translated into my longer writing. It also meant I had a lot of material in the guise of short fiction which someone suggested I might pull together into an anthology; I’d published my first – Life in a Grain of Sand – following a Nano (national novel writing month, November 2015) challenge I set myself (to write 30 short stories, each 1667 words long, which was the suggested nano daily word count, each in a different voice, genre and tense and each based on prompts sent me by my readers.
That idea led to three other anthologies since 2016, using the best of my output (about two years worth) – Life in a Flash, Life in a Conversation and Life Sentences.

As for the guy in the corner, if you can see him, be worried – be very worried…

Right I have the tray ready let’s sit under the pergola I’ve put the furniture out ready. Is he not joining us?

How’s the coffee… cake lemon drizzle or Jamaican ginger cake all homemade. Can we discuss the first of three stories I have picked. The first one is The road to hell.

This is a beautiful story Geoff. One of a long lasting friendship. A kindness done daily unfortunately not quite appreciated.
I get the feeling that this story has a resonance with you, it certainly does with me. Have you had to care for a relative or friend who by either stroke or dementia has been unable to communicate their feelings.

You reach my age and it’s pretty inevitable you’ve seen people you care for decline physically, mentally and/or emotionally. Trying to allow them to hold onto their sense of self while giving support and eventually caring for them is one of the most difficult challenges. In some cases, some people are ‘locked in’ even when still capable of expressing themselves. That has been my experience. And it remains crucial to allow them to be their irreverent and natural selves. Incontinence doesn’t make them inconsequential; powerless doesn’t mean humourless. And the real and ever present danger of ascribing meaning to actions – here, assuming an emotional background to the sniffles rather than a prosaic physical one – is the point behind the humour.

I totally agree with you there Geoff, and it not easy to find that fine line…. I have been there more than a few times. Another cuppa?

The next story is History Repeats.

Now where did this one come from Geoff . Another story of friends supporting each other through a time of sadness. The story of Grandma’s sad end …. The comfort of knowing she was joined by her mother, such a poignant story.

I Think I was listening to stories from D Day survivors; not that many are left now. About the sangfroid of the participants. Their language was the opposite of histrionic. And that always makes me think, not so much of the obvious dead, the soldiers, but the crushed families left behind. To me death is at its most cruel on the survivors not on the deceased. That’s where the stories are, where grim reality hits hardest. And of course I left it open to the readers to think about the post mortem opprobrium that would be visited on the mother for selfishly sacrificing herself without a thought for her child; that would I feel have been the main conclusion.
So many people damaged by those set piece national events. The grandfather would have been celebrated for his heroism and sacrifice; the grandmother vilified for her cowardice and weakness. Both unjust. Yet, I hope there’s a little hope, a little redemption that comes through in the spirit of the granddaughter and the support of her friend.

There was a lot of that keeping up appearances and stiff upper lips in those days and times were as harsh as people’s opinions. I get the feeling that Sarah was convinced that her recently deceased mum had made peace with her mum and now and they were once again united. Hopefully that means Sarah can move on. ..just my opinion.

Yes I’ll show you around the garden mind you it’s not a patch on yours but we are proud of it. Would you like another

Now can we discuss my last choice Remaining Sanguine which is right up my street because I love a good Vampire and Werewolf tale.

Now this one is great, two star crossed lovers breaking all taboos and crossing boundaries ending up with fireworks….. Is that how you see it!…or not?

Funnily enough, I see this as a story that looks at what it means to be on the fringes. In the margins, things happen to you that the majority never experience. And often, those in the margins end up fighting others in the same situation for their very existence, with the comfortable majorities passing by. I also thought about a vampire and a werewolf who came from minorities and what that might mean. And I hoped to find some humour to leaven the seriousness of the idea. It’s my motto, when writing, I suppose: if in doubt, go for the funny.

I think that is what I saw too though with a slight variation on the fighting as opposed to star-crossed loves but very much set on the fringes and in the margins.

Right Geoff let’s get the Blurb to your new book, Life Death and Other Characters out there…I rather like the way you have approached it:

*******

What would you do if you were to host a dinner party and the sky wasn’t what you’d ordered? Could you find someone to shake out the creases from the clouds and tone down the wind to an acceptable zephyr? And what are the challenges facing a Portal Management Volunteer as they steer the recently departed to their chosen Hereafter? Or how would you organise your life if you were called to do God service just when you’d planned on making marmalade that weekend? Life, DEATH and Other Characters will inform and, where necessary, guide you through these and other complications amongst a lot of other short fiction that will educate inform and entertain. Well, maybe one out of three.

*********

Now here are my three favourite stories from Life Death and other Characters , yes the very ones we discussed.

The road to hell

Roger Penstick didn’t begrudge helping his old friend.

It had been hard watching him slip into that cloudy state where the absent-minded forgetfulness that meant you couldn’t remember where your car keys were became the tormented senility that meant you could no longer remember what they were for.

At nine every morning he let himself into the small cottage Arthur called home and met his friend in the kitchen. The carers had already been, made sure he was dressed and fed and left him in his comfy chair for Roger and their morning’s constitutional.

‘Where shall we go today, mate?’ he asked, hopeful of getting some sort of reply. Occasionally, he was offered a smile, sometimes a “Lovely sun” or “Where’s Madge?”, his long-deceased wife. It mattered not. Not these days. It was all about giving him those fragments of pleasure he could still access.

Arthur didn’t really cope with walking far, not these days, but he seemed happy enough to settle into the wheelchair provided by the surgery.  Roger manoeuvred the “beast” through the narrow door and onto the path, before encouraging Arthur to sit down and be tucked in.

Roger wasn’t that young himself and the short, steep incline wasn’t as easy as it used to be. By the time he’d reached the ornamental gates, he was red in the face and short of breath. Sometimes he would mutter to himself, cursing the placement of the Peace Gardens that Millennium money had funded. He couldn’t deny, however, how well it had settled to be part of village life, how established the roses and lavender borders now appeared.

But, were he being honest, he would have preferred a walk into the village itself, not this way. They could have sat outside the shop, chatted with those going about their morning affairs, maybe slipped into the Coach Inn for a coffee. There were several pluses to taking that route, not least that it was flat.

He chided himself with this uncharitable thought. The effort was worth it for the enjoyment Arthur got. He clearly loved it here. And it kept Roger fitter than the pub would.

They entered the gates and already Roger could feel his friend sit up. Someone told him those whose minds were closing in sometimes found memories in other senses, in song or, in this case, scent. The fragrance of the early roses was replaced by the saturated delights of the lavender.

‘Pretty amazing, isn’t it?’ he offered as he wheeled the chair so it brushed against the overhanging pendulums of blossom. He saw his friend’s shoulders heave, aware a tear would be forming on his lids, his nose beginning to run.

What memory was it he now accessed with such a deep passion? Whatever it was, Roger was pleased to bring even a moment’s joy while he still could.

And Arthur?

What would he have said if he could? How would he have explained the tears?

‘Bloody hay fever.’

History Repeats

‘She’s there, just by the shore.’ Sarah glanced at Martine, who knew she wanted some reassurance.

‘How far?’ Martine still struggled to be sure what was the right thing to say.

Sarah sighed. Martine knew that sigh so well. It spoke of her quiet despair, desperate to be believed.

Sarah seemed to force out the brittle smile. ‘About two hundred yards, at two o’clock. She’s staring out to sea.’

Martine followed the direction her friend indicated. If only…

‘You don’t think I’m bonkers, do you?’

Martine put an arm round her friend. Yes, maybe a bit, she thought. ‘Course. Always were. But only after a couple of peach mojitos.’

The smile, when it came, was more natural. At least Martine hoped it was.

‘She never looks back. Not once.’ Sarah sounded wistful.

‘When did you find her?’ Martine didn’t need to ask; she’d been aware of this vision – was that the right word? – for what? Three years?  And no one else had ever seen a thing, which she knew was slowly eroding Sarah’s sanity.

‘Three years ago. I thought I was mad, too.’ She snorted a short laugh. ‘I think the really mad bit was coming back the next year, to check. I had to know.’

‘Know?’

Sarah shook her shoulders, as if freeing them of tension. ‘Come on. I’ll explain as we walk.’

‘Where are we going?’ Martine vaguely hoped it was coffee. June on the beach wasn’t always welcoming.

‘To prove I’m as sane as you.’

Good luck with that, thought Martine as she followed her down the steps.

Sarah started speaking in a flat voice. ‘Her name was Kate Atkinson. She was nineteen, married, with a daughter. On 7th June 1944 she came here to stare at France, knowing her beloved husband, Albert, was there, part of the D-Day landings. He was a radio operator.’

When Martine glanced across at her friend, she could see her throat moving as if she was swallowing hard.

Sarah continued as they stepped onto the sand. ‘He was killed outside a small town about ten miles inland. A gas explosion, apparently. Kate received a telegram the next day.’ She stopped and looked at Martine. ‘You wouldn’t think they could have been that efficient, what with the war going full tilt.’

‘How’d you find that out?’

‘The coroner’s court records were put online a few years ago. Kate came here the same day she heard the news. She dressed her best. Nice skirt and blouse. Patent leather shoes. Shoes for dancing. She took them off and walked into the sea.’ She checked her watch. ‘In about five minutes.’

‘Geez, you’re not serious?’ Martine stopped and stared at the empty beach, trying to imagine being that depressed. Especially a mother of a child.

Sarah had kept going, but she paused and Martine hurried to catch up. ‘I don’t get too close until she’s gone. I worry I might see her expression. I don’t think I could cope with that.’

‘Earlier, when I said how did you find out, I meant how did you find her name?’

Sarah smiled. ‘It’s why I came the first time. She was my grandma. When Mum went into the home, I found a shoebox in her wardrobe. There were pictures of Kate and Bert and a newspaper article about his death and hers. They only knew it was here she walked into the sea because she took off her shoes. It was foggy that day, a real peasouper, and no one saw her go.’ Sarah turned towards the shore and stood very still.

To Martine, it looked like a thousand-yard stare, but she knew now what Sarah was seeing. Then Sarah sighed, her shoulders dropping as the tension left them. Like the relief at the end of the minute’s silence, Martine thought.

‘Is it over?’

Sarah nodded. ‘Come on, before the tide turns.’

In silence, the pair trudged across the wet sand, both of them gazing towards France as Kate had done seventy-five years before. Sarah began hunting for something, her head down, concentrating hard. ‘Here.’ Her voice spoke of relief not triumph.

Martine walked over. Sarah stood a few feet from a set of prints: the sole and heel of two size six, or so Martine guessed, women’s shoes placed side by side. Leading away from those two prints and into the sea were more prints, but these were bare feet, deep and determined. She looked up and met Sarah’s gaze.

‘You can see them?’

‘Yes. Yes, I can. Oh, my dear, how utterly poignant.’ A thought struck her. ‘If you can see your grandma, what about your mum? Do you think she might? Even now?’

Sarah crouched down and traced the edge of one shoe print with her finger. A wave curled across the toe, softening the edges. She stood, brushing away a few grains of sand. ‘Let’s get a coffee.’

As they headed across the beach, Sarah peered at the flat white sky. ‘I thought about that, but it’s too late.’ Tears, which Martine had expected earlier, poured down Sarah’s cheeks. ‘She’s gone into the fog, just like Grandma did.’ She sniffed and took her friend’s arm. ‘Let’s hope they find some comfort in there, eh?’

Behind them the waves spread across the sand, smoothing it for another year.

Remaining Sanguine .

You know what’s the worst thing about being a black vampire? People laugh at you when you say you can’t stand the sun. They think you’re a wuss. Drives me nuts and it’s meant I’ve gone undercover, spending my days in a doorway, hoodie up, head down. I’m just another vagrant, invisible. I told my cousin Leroy in Milwaukee that it made my blood boil and he just laughed. ‘You don’t have enough to boil.’

Truth is, being homeless worked for a time. Then that bloody dog appeared. You know it, don’t you? A solo panhandler is ignored, but give him a pet and they’re all over him, cooing and giving him bits of burger. Humiliating for a Count of Transylvania; mother would spin in her grave if she hadn’t been skewered by a length of two by four.

I told him to bugger off or he’d get it in the neck. I felt stupid as soon as the words came out and blow me if he didn’t laugh. I should have smelt a rat then, a dog laughing.

So, the sun was sinking and I was testing my teeth to make sure they were sharp when he started this twisting and roaring thing. It was dead impressive. Turns out he’s a werewolf. Did you know being infected as a werewolf could cross the species barrier? Me neither. I thought it was a wolf/human thing.

It was dark, the moon was out and he was drooling at me, and I was lusting at him. We went at it like two worlds colliding, fur and hair, blood and guts everywhere. Two hours, we were in bits. Any likely punters were long gone. It’s been the same all this week.

The paper says it’s a half moon tonight; hope so cos I’m gasping for a pint.

Geoff’s Bio and links

Geoff Le Pard started writing to entertain in 2006. He hasn’t left his keyboard since. When he’s not churning out novels, he writes some maudlin self-indulgent poetry, short fiction, and blogs at geofflepard.com. He walks the dog for mutual inspiration, and most of his best ideas come out of these strolls. He also cooks with passion if not precision.

Well Geoff I have to say that Life Death and other Characters is a must read Book ! There is something for everyone there. I can honestly say I really enjoyed every story. Some made me laugh, some made me cry (and some made me do both).with sadness and in fun too they all made me think I recommend it to everyone there is something there to suit everyone. Well done Geoff Le Pard another string to your bow. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 14th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “once upon a time.” Start your post with “Once upon a time,” then write whatever comes to you, whether it be fact or fiction. Have fun!

Once upon a time

Once apon a time there was a young prince, named Bonniface. His  family  had  reigned over  their  kingdom  for  a  thousand  years!! Sadly the  present  king ( Bonniface’s dad) was   not  the  best  with  the  royal  purse  and  right  now  the  kingdom  was  deeply  in  the  red!  The  King  and  Queen  after much deliberation  decided  Bonniface should  marry Princess  Precious  from  the  the  kingdom  next  door  but one.

Well  that  was  not  so  bad  she  was  quiet  a  looker! So  it  was  a light  and happy  heart  that  he  set  off to meet  Precious. All went well on his arrival until after dinner whilst having   drink out on  the palace  veranda  that  Precious  showed  her  true  colours.

She  told  Bonniface   that  if  he  wished  to  marry  her  he  had  to carry  out  some  quests  for  her, to  prove  his  worth.

Poor  Bonniface   had  spent  the  last  two  years, getting  water  from  the  Well of  Life, crystals  from the  Mountains of  Doom and  three  scales  from a  living  dragon (  boy  that  was hard!) and  now  he was  supposed  to  getting  a  lock  of  hair  from a fairy!

Night  was falling  and  Bonniface  was hungry  and  so  was his  horse. As they  rounded  the  bend  Bonniface  saw  tiny  twinkling  lights  up  ahead. Ah!  he  thought  perhaps  there is  a chance  of  shelter  and  food, his  horse  (  who I  have  not  introduced  yet, named Jet, due  to his  colour) thought  exactly  the  same .

Nearing  the  lights the Prince  and  horse  were  amazed  to  see  that  they  were  surrounded  twinkling  fairies! They  were  really  so  enchanting  and  beautiful. The  Prince stood  stock  still  and  opened  mouthed. The  tiny  and  beautiful  faires  danced  all around  him. All  the  warnings  he  had  been  given  about  this  sort  of  thing totally  disappeared from his  mind  and  he  forgot  the rain and  the  tiredness  and  smiled !

A beautiful  soft  voice  from  behind  him made  him spin  round .

There in front of  him  was  the  most  beautiful  Fairy Prince, blonde  hair,  blue  eyes, red lips  and  equally  as  tall as  himself.  Bonniface  was  smitten . “Prince  Bonniface I  assume” said  the  silver tongued  Fairy Prince, ( he really did have a  silver  coloured  tongue). “I  have  had  my  eye on  you  for  several  months  now”  The  Fairy  Prince  smiled  and  bowed  very  low  taking  a  good  look  at  the  bedraggled  Bonniface  as  he  straighten up. Bonniface  was  still dumbstruck.

Well  the  Fairy  Prince  persuaded  Prince  Bonniface   to  stay  for  dinner  and  for decency’s sake  I  shall not  mention  what  happened  after  dinner   but  boy  it  was  hot and  joy  reigned  supreme!

In  the  morning  the  Fairy Prince  invited  Prince  Bonniface  to  stay  with  him  forever, apparently  if  he  stayed  he  would  become  a fairy  too  and  be  married  to  the  Fairy  Prince. It  took  Bonniface  a  split  second  to  weigh  up  the  pros  and  cons  of  life with the  Fairy  Prince  or  Princess Precious…… Yup  he  stayed  and  he  and  the Fairy  Prince lived  happily  ever  after. Well I  say  happily  ever after  they  did  have  their  ups  and  downs  and  Bonniface  found  himself  in  the  body  of  a  frog   more  than once   but  he  and  his  Prince  never  slept on  an  argument and  they always  made up  before sunset . They  had  lots of  fun  and  glorious sex  and  Bonniface   never  had  to  go  on  anymore  quests!

Jet  became a unicorn  and  was  very  popular  because   he  was  the only  black  unicorn in existence!

Prince Bonniface’s  parents  suddenly  came  into  money  and  his  younger brother  Bob  became  the  next in  line  (  Bob  was an accountant   so  the  kingdom was in  safe  hands)

Princess Precious, well after  a  year or  two  decided  that Bonniface was  not  coming  back so  she  married  Prince  Rufus  of  some  other  Kingdom and  after  an uneasy  start  they  fell in  love  and  she  become  half  decent !

I  won’t  say  they  all  lived  happily  ever after   because  let us   get  real  no one  does  not  even in real  fairytales.   But  these  guys  above  made  a pretty  good  fists of  it!

Heartland Echoes

Welcome to my “Heartland Echoes,” where I aim to share my poems with the world, along with my survival story and autobiography of childhood abuse, motivational quotes, and much more. Through my words, I hope to inspire others to share their own stories and experiences. Each poem is a piece of my heart and soul, along with a story of a traumatic past, crafted with inspiration, Hope, faith, love and passion. I believe that by sharing our art and emotions, I’ll be able to connect with others on a deeper level and create a sense of community.
