May 13, 2012 – Where Have All the Earthquakes Gone? The last earthquake, greater than or equal to 6.0 magnitude, occurred on May 1, 2012. That quake was a 6.0 magnitude, centered of the west coast of southern Mexico. Since then we’ve been through the “Super Moon” of May 5th, when the Moon was as close to the Earth as it has been in a long time, and the third-quarter Moon May 12th; with no quakes over 6.0. Before May 1st, the last quakes we had, greater than 7.0 where the “pair of 8’s” on April 11th. As you may remember, that was the day we had an 8.2 and then, two hours and five minutes later, an 8.6 off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.
The graphs above may explain why we’ve had no recent earthquakes. They were constructed using 39 years of global quake history. They show the quantity of earthquakes, before and after three types of Solar Eclipses – Total, Annular and Partial. The top graph shows the quantity of quakes +/- 10 days from the exact eclipse day (‘0). Notice that the quantity of tremors tend to be at a minimum around day ‘0 to day ‘-1.
The power of those quakes is shown in the bottom graph. On average, over the last 39 years, there were no strong quakes until three to one days (‘3 to ‘1) before the eclipse. That is exactly what we’ve seen, i.e., a series of weak quakes mostly below 6.0 from May 1st. According to this graph, the next stronger quakes will not appear until May 17th to the 19th; when the “Quake Power Meter” reaches maximum for the month.
Since the May 20, 2012 solar eclipse is an annular one, where the Sun’s disk is not completely obscured by the Moon; I would expect the next stronger quake to occur on May 17th (three days before the exact eclipse date).
The Master of Disaster

“Where have all the earthquakes gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the earthquakes gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the earthquakes gone?
Gone to Alaska everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?”
Well my feeling is somewhere around Kuril, Alutians, or Alaska – on that arc and within 2 days. But I am probably wrong!
I shall have a study of your figures later.
Really good PuterMan – I love it.
Here is my prediction (track me on this one):
Earthquake Predition:
1. Near Andean Islands, Aleutian Islands, Alaska – 50*N46, 177*W38 – 7.5 magnitude – May 17, 2012.
Note: I would also include Rat Islands, Aleutian Islands, AK – 50 degrees North Latitude and between 174 and 176 East Longitude, between May17th and May 19th – 7.1M to 7.9M; however my first pick is above.
Volcanic Prediction:
1. Mount Takawangha, Kanga, great Sitkin or Cleveland. Cleveland is one of the most active volcanoes in the Aleutian Island Chain, however, my first two peaks are Takawangha and Kanga.
These predictions are based on the fact that the May 20, 2012 eclipse goes directly through this area AND that the Sun/Moon eclipse line goes through the latitude and longitude specified PLUS the Admetos and Jupiter Paran Latitude Lines cross at 50 degrees 47 minutes latitude. Since Admetos, Jupiter and Mercury are all in the fixed sign of Taurus AND rise between 5:13 and 5:25AM PDT, this would be the time I will predict for any volcanic or earthquake activity in the specified region.

Well. I blew that one. So much for predicting earthquakes using Annular Solar Eclipses. I will keep researching however. I’ll keep you all up-to-date. Thank you, dear readers, for visiting the Chaos Blog.

Well yes and no, and me as well. The eclipse is not passed yet so there is still time. A day or two in earthquake terms is neither here nor there!
Bear in mind that you said below “This could manifest in either two earthquakes very close together on May 17th or a series of two to four over the three day period form May 17th to may 19h.”
As I say, there is still time.
I did say that, let’s see what happens. So far we’ve had (>= 6.0 mag.) three quakes, breaking the “drought” of quakes from May 1st. May 14th (GMT/UTC time) 6.2 Tarapaca, Chile; 6.0 May 16th near New Britain, PNG; 6.2 May 18th off the west coast of Chile. I expect two quakes very close together, say less than two hours; >= 6.0 mag.; either May 19th or May 20th.

Bill
One more point: Since the Annular Solar Eclipse of May 20, 2012 is in the dual sign of Gemini (at 0*Gemii21′) their is a strong possibility that we could get dual earthquakes. This could manifest in either two earthquakes very close together on May 17th or a series of two to four over the three day period form May 17th to may 19h. Also, comparing this Eclipse to others in the past, the possibility exists that an event greater than 8.0 magnitude will occur; based upon the natal planetary configuraion; including the luminaries, vulcun, transpluto and the eight Uranian planets.

This is exciting! Let’s see if you are correct!
Thank you,
Jacquelyn
Thank you Jacqueyln. I want to comment on the SpaceJockey1 comment I approved, then disapproved when I found out it leads to an advertising site (homepage pays xyz) with no documentation of his predictions.
Further, since he mentioned five of the highest earthquake regions in the world (sumatra, Peru, Chile, Japan & Cascadia) I felt that it was a bogus comment meant to draw people to his advertising site. I urge you not to follow his link, if you received his comment.

Hi Bill Im from Mexico, you Know that volcano Popocapetl is having activity, do you think that IF there is a BIG earthquake from 17-19 this affect the volcano? I know of your blog because of ATS forum, and there a read something about Popo explotion. Thanks.
“popo” was active recently, however, I don’t think it will be affected by this eclipse. We have a transiting Uranus in Aries square transiting pluto in Capricorn coming up June 24th, which could set off some volcanic activity and earthquakes. As we get closer to that date I’ll do a post or two on it. This Urnaus square Pluto is one of seven transiting aspects, that takes place from June, 2012; through 2015. Their is one more this year on Sept. 18th.
