The Global Volcanism Program documents, disseminates, and archives eruption information to better understand worldwide volcanic activity. Reports are produced on daily, weekly, and multi-month timescales. Information from these reports, along with content from scientific studies and other sources, is compiled in the Volcanoes of the World database, a catalog of Holocene and Pleistocene volcanoes and their eruptions from the past 12,000 years.

Public launch of the Smithsonian / USGS Daily Volcanic Activity Report, a cooperative project between the USGS Volcano Disaster Assistance Program (VDAP) and GVP. Concise daily volcanic activity summaries are published Monday through Friday and describe volcanic activity that has occurred and been reported by volcano observatories or other authoritative agencies during the preceding ~24 hours. The report is underpinned by a VDAP database, E-Chron, that archives volcanic activity for eruption forecast analyses, and presented with content from the GVP Volcanoes of the World Database.
