Void Complet’s EP “My Idea of Fun” delivered a diverse selection of club tracks that resonated with an equally wide section of DJs and heads.
To follow, Chog has invited some of his favourite producers to remix the EP giving us “Their Idea of Fun”.
London duo Kassian kick things off with a stripped back interpretation of “Picture This”, going deeper into the Baile Funk inspired sound they set out on their recent Supercontinent EP on K7.
Next up, Natural Frequency boss and NTS resident LDLDN takes his cue from the “d’ACID” vocal sample delivering a darker, beefed up version of the original with a distinct nod to Detroit.
Bristol based Jan Warner, working under his Slow Assembly alias, also takes on “d’ACID”, bringing the funk to the 303s in a blitz of old school samples and breakbeats all wrapped up with his usual classy production.
Dublin’s ZOiD goes free form electro-jazz on an innovative rework of “1101 90M1 130a_05” featuring the breakbeat from the original laid over rangy sub bass and improvised melodic solos.
Ambient don Northworks deconstructs “Picture This”, sending the constituent parts on a journey through various dark reverberant spaces. We get glimpses of original which threatens to reassemble itself before
disintegrating back into Northworks’ signature modular soundscape.
Finally Void Complet reinterprets his own track “d’ACID” through the hazy lens of a 6am dance floor ... a deeper, woozier, blissed out take on the stand out track from the EP.
Their Idea of Fun is set to be released on CHOBU records on 11th July.
