Maureen Lang in her new book “
All In Good Time” Book Two in the Gilded Legacy series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to 1887 Denver and into the life of Dessa Caldwell.
From the back cover: Denver 1887
Dessa Caldwell has a dream: to open Pierson House, a refuge for former prostitutes in Denver’s roughest neighborhood. But after exhausting all charitable donations, Dessa still needs a loan, and nearly every bank in town has turned her down. Her last hope hinges on the owner of Hawkins National Bank.
Henry Hawkins has a secret: though he owns the most successful bank in town, his initial capital came from three successful raids on Wells Fargo coaches. Now he’s the most eligible bachelor in Denver, but to protect his criminal past, he’s built a fortress around his heart. Not even the boldest matchmaking mother can tempt him . . . until the day Dessa Caldwell ventures into his bank requesting a loan.
Though he’s certain her proposal is a bad investment, Henry is drawn to Dessa’s passion. But that same passion drives her to make rash decisions about Pierson House . . . and about whom she can trust. One man might hold the key to the future of her mission—but he also threatens to bring Henry’s darkest secrets to light. As the walls around their hearts begin to crumble, Henry and Dessa must choose between their plans and God’s, between safety and love.
“All In Good Time” is a story about the timing of God and how do we know when the time is now or we still have to wait. I think this is an area where all of us have missed the mark at some point and it is nice to see this topic tackled in novel form. Ms. Lang has given us great characters with great themes. Dessa wants to open a home for former prostitutes but finds it difficult to find these women to come to her home even though it is open. You’ll be interested to know why. Henry is a banker with a secret that he feels will ruin him if it is known yet he feels God poking him to tell. Both Dessa and Henry have secrets that are holding them back from fully embracing their present and launching into the future. It is going to take God to heal them of their past hurts and give them their destiny. “”All In Good Time” is about friendship, love, betrayal, healing from past sins and finding your place in the world. This is a fun read filled with adventure and romance. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Ms. Lang has given us another excellent story in this wonderful series and I am looking forward to the next one.

Maureen Lang in her new book “
Bees in the Butterfly Garden” Book One in the Gilded Legacy series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to 1883 Connecticut and into the life of Meg Davenport.
From the back cover: “A young lady of impeccable decorum never appears outside her home unchaperoned, uncoiffed, ungloved, or unhappy.” —MADAME MARISSE’S HANDBOOK FOR YOUNG LADIES
Raised at an exclusive boarding school, Meg Davenport has everything she needs but none of what she’s wanted most—like the love of a family, or a future not dependent on following etiquette and marrying well. So when she receives shocking news of her father’s death, Meg seizes the chance to break every rule that has governed her life. Especially when she learns John Davenport wasn’t the wealthy businessman she thought, but one of the Gilded Age’s most talented thieves.
Ian Maguire knows that John—his mentor—would never have wanted his beloved daughter to follow in his footsteps. Yet she is determined to carry on his legacy, and her talent for garden design has earned her an invitation to stay with one of Fifth Avenue’s wealthiest families. With friends like those, Meg could help Ian pull off his biggest heist yet.
But living in both worlds is more treacherous than Meg imagined. And as Ian’s concern for Meg turns to love, he finds himself torn between greed and guilt. Can they find the legacy they both long for, or in trying to gain everything, will they end up losing it all?
If you read this blog then you know that I like history “Bees in the Butterfly Garden” is chock full of history. Ms. Lang transports us back to an era that is gone forever and makes us feel as though we are there. Ms. Lang has given us great characters with great themes. Ian is torn between his profession and his friendship with the late father of Meg. He doesn’t want her to follow in her father’s footsteps, which is thievery, but he does see that she is potentially useful to him as he is also a thief. On top of that he is in love with her so that puts him in quite a dilemma. “Bees in the Butterfly Garden” is about friendship, love, betrayal, emotional bonds and finding your place in the world. This is a fun read filled with adventure and romance. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Ms. Lang has given us an excellent beginning to a wonderful series and i am looking forward to the next one.

Maureen Lang in her new book “
Springtime Of The Spirit” Book Three in The Great War series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to Munich in 1918.
The Great War, as World War I was called, is over and soldiers from all sides are returning home. Christophe Brecht, a German, has been fighting for four years and is weary but the town he left is not the town he returns home to. The war has been devastating on Germany and much has changed, more than Christophe can deal with. So when he is given the opportunity to travel to Munich to bring back Annaliese Duray he jumps at the chance.
Annaliese is working to bring about change in her country. However, she does not realize that the people she is working with want to turn her country to communism and that is where the conflict really begins to boil. Christophe stays to protect her and the romance between them begins to flourish.
This is a fun read, it is an interesting read with many themes that you will need to think about long after you finish the book. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Ms. Lang is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as she tightens the suspense.
