Good old School days

Standard

A bloggerfriend ladysighs made me get out an album from the past.

With smiles on my face,

I remember fondly the time in my Grammar school in Germany.

It was an all girl’s school, we did have fun.

This was between 1972 and 1980

We don’t have class/year pictures,

that was not tradition in Germany.

We did take pictures of our teachers though.

We made up special names for some teachers

derived from their surnames ususally.

Our Chemistry teacher, Herr Kazmayer, we called him “Katzi Schatzi” 🙂

Our latin teachers Herr Kimmerle ” Kimmi” and Herr Luipold called “Lupo”

Education is not preparation for life;
Education is life itself.

John Dewey

Our Maths teacher 1977, Herr Gumann called “Gummi”

He made mistakes on the blackboard and after we found 10 mistakes

we had a picnic together.

One way to keep our attention.

Education is what remains
after one has forgotten
what one has learned in school.

Albert Einstein

Peter Scruton, called “Snoopy” our Art teacher.

He was from England and became a great teacher.

He retired in Germany, there was even an article in the paper.

Frau Kurz (German and Sports) and Mr Peter Scruton on a school trip.

The beautiful thing about learning is
that no one can take it away from you.

B.B. King

Our three young heart throbs – in a girls school not surprising. 🙂

Herr Gumann, Herr Jeurrisen and Herr Schliphak during a school fete.

We never had lessons with Herr Jeurrisen and Herr Schliphak

unfortunately.

and finally me in the morning break around 1977.

We have no school uniforms in Germany.

An investment in knowledge
pays the best interest.

Benjamin Franklin

I love remembering those days,

we had fun in the breaks, we rollerskated, we played badminton,

we had discussions with good friends.

There were bits we do not want to remember and I don’t,

the good times stay in the memory.

Do you have fun school memories?

1982

Standard

In the loft I found 40 year old records of my apprenticeship journals.

I learnt the Hotel Business.

I learnt all aspects like reception, kitchen, serving, bar, clean rooms and running a hotel.

We had to write weekly reports, had them signed by the mentor and by the big boss.

It was fun to read them all again.

Life has changed in this electronic age…..look at that 🙂

This is how credit cards worked in 1982, the machine imprinted the guest’s and Hotel’s name. There were 3 copies , the last one for the guest, the the other 2 for the CC company and the hotel file.

If you had breakfast in my hotel, your table would look like that in 1981

For lunch and dinner you would find the table like that.

A four course dinner looks like this. It was fish for the 1st course.

You can see the ideal wine glass shape. Cheers!

There were no computers back then.

The Hotel journal was written by hand with a carbon paper and added up in the evening.

All reservations were taken by post or telephone and recorded on a chart.

It is funny to think this life without computers.

I really enjoyed my time in the Hotel with wonderful guests and colleagues.

Sweet memories ♥♥♥

Did you enjoy your learning journey way back?
