When UCL SSEES asked for testimonials from students of its language evening classes, I thought it would be fun to deliver mine in video form from #Slovenia, including some #Slovene to demonstrate what I have learnt so far! Despite my regular TV appearances - did I mention Netflix before? 😆 - I had always been reluctant to record my own video content, at least until my Instagram reels in Slovene started going viral in Slovenia four months ago. This one has now contributed over 60,000 views (and lots of engagement) to the current running total of 1.25 million, which is really pleasing given that it's quite long by social media video standards. It's reminded me that I should really record more video content about shops and high streets too - though perhaps in English rather than Slovene, given the target audience! And it reinforces what I have seen in recent months from the brilliant retailers I have worked with in places such as East Sussex, Durham and Galashiels - the undisputed power of video to tell a story that wins people over, just as long as you can find a distinctive, authentic and engaging voice 👌
