The world's most iconic transport network. 🌍

About us

Every day, we help millions of people to make journeys across London: By Tube, bus, tram, car, bike – and more. People don’t associate us with journeys by river, on foot or via the air, but we help with that, too. Getting people to where they need to go has been our business for over 100 years, and it shows. We’re leaders in our field, and no other city’s transport system is quite as recognisable: Red buses, black taxis, Tube trains and roundels have become icons in their own right. Our main job is to keep the city moving, working and growing but to do that, we have to listen. Constant improvements across the network are fuelled by feedback and comments from customers, as well as work within communities, representative groups, businesses and other London transport stakeholders. But our progress also depends on technology and data. With the future at our fingertips, we’ve already used it to revolutionise travel payments (think Oyster and contactless payment cards), and improved travel information. Tech and data is essential, not just to our future, but to others’: third parties use our data to power apps and services vital to customer journeys. So what’s next? As well as continuing to deliver Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s strategy and commitments on transport, our programme of capital investments is still one of the largest. We launched the Elizabeth line, we’re modernising services and stations and making travel safer for all.

Updates

  • A moment of kindness can make all the difference. 💙 Recently at Stratford station, Transport Support Enforcement Officers Patrick Nestori, Agit Zengin and Daniel Ogudu were alerted by station staff to a vulnerable customer attempting to travel but was clearly unwell and in need of support. The officers quickly stepped in, taking the time to calmly engage with him, build trust and ensure he felt safe. It became clear he was confused, distressed and struggling to breathe, so the team acted fast to help him safely into a recovery position while contacting the London Ambulance Service. They stayed by his side throughout, offering reassurance and support until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital for further care. A huge thank you to Patrick, Agit and Daniel for their compassion, professionalism and quick thinking. Their actions are a powerful reminder of the care and support our colleagues provide to vulnerable customers across the network every day. #TfLCares #CustomerService #LondonTransport

  • Fare evasion takes money away from London’s transport network. Our teams are working every day to tackle it. 👮♂️ Channel 5's new series, Fare Dodgers: At War with the Law, gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the work of our bus enforcement and investigation teams. The series follows colleagues as they inspect buses, examine journey histories and CCTV evidence, and take action to recover revenue for London’s transport network. Their work helped secure 14,406 convictions against fare evaders last year, 955 more than the previous year. It supports our commitment to reducing fare evasion to 1.5% or less by 2035, ensuring that everyone contributes their fair share. Operational Policy Manager Jon Poett said: “Our enforcement and investigation teams do a great job every day, often in challenging circumstances. This series offers an insight into how they detect, deter and enforce against fare evasion. I’m pleased that colleagues have had the opportunity to share their stories, the reality of their roles and the hard work they do every day.” Watch Fare Dodgers: At War with the Law on Channel 5, Mondays at 9pm, or catch up on demand here: https://lnkd.in/eVmJdRtk

  • Together with the British Transport Police, we're committed to supporting our frontline teams and keeping London's transport network safe for everyone 👮 Superintendent John Loveless recently met with our Transport Support & Enforcement (TSE) officers at one of our head offices, reinforcing our strong partnership and thanking our frontline teams for their professionalism and resilience.
