  • A day in the life of Planet Mark’s Head of Strategic Accounts and Carbon Management, John Tarbet 👋 Here’s what a typical day looks like. 👇 ☀️ Morning I’m an early starter, so I like to get organised and map out the day before everything gets going. I try to protect some focused “flow state” time for strategic work before the diary fills up, although there are usually a few curveballs along the way. From there, it’s a mix of client calls, emails and working with teams across Planet Mark to make sure our Members are getting as much value as possible from their membership. 🤝 Meeting clients I’m often out visiting clients, which is one of the best parts of the role. There’s no substitute for seeing a business first hand, understanding how it operates and getting to know the people behind it. Every organisation is different, so a lot of my time is spent listening, solving problems and helping clients work out what they need to do next. 📋 What I’m working on A big focus for me at the moment is ESOS and helping organisations prepare for the 2027 Phase 4 deadline. We’re working with clients now to understand their obligations, put a clear plan in place and use ESOS to uncover energy, carbon and cost-saving opportunities, rather than leaving it until the last minute and treating it as a box-ticking exercise. I also work with existing Members on membership upgrade pathways, support our Business Development team with more complex strategic sales opportunities and help clients and colleagues work through challenges as they come up. 💬 What people might not realise People often assume the role is mainly about carbon data and reports. In reality, it’s very people-focused. Building relationships, understanding different businesses and becoming a trusted partner to clients is a huge part of what I do. 🌟 What I enjoy most What I enjoy most is helping clients achieve their goals and seeing the value our support creates. I get to work with such a wide range of organisations and see behind the scenes of how they operate. No two clients are the same, which means no two days are the same. 👉 Who should we spotlight next? #DayInTheLife #LifeAtPlanetMark #TeamPlanetMark

  • 15 tonnes of flower waste composted, 100% of studio waste recycled or composted, floral foam? Gone entirely. 🌱   Waste is the biggest impact most floral studios never talk about, so Blooming Haus - B Corp Certified started right there. And rather than treat it as one big problem, they broke it into streams and found a specialist partner for each one, five in total, each one solving something standard UK recycling can't. Sorting it all before it leaves the studio takes time and resource. Five years in, that commitment has become how they operate.  A 95% drop in waste emissions in a single year says it was worth it. We mapped all five waste streams and who solves them in the full case study, link in the comments. 👇  #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #ZeroWaste

People Behind the Mark 👋 We asked Millie Hocking , our Senior Account Manager the one thing she wished more businesses understood about supply chain emissions. Not that Scope 3 matters, everyone knows that by now. It's usually the vast majority of a company's footprint, and most sustainability teams have known it for years. The gap is the doing. And the reason it's hard is rarely willpower, it's data. Your emissions are sitting with suppliers who often haven't measured their own, so you're building a picture from partial numbers and spend-based estimates that can quietly flatter your progress. Which is why the businesses moving fastest aren't the ones who understand the theory. They're the ones who've done the unglamorous work of actually getting the numbers. That's the step we help with.  https://lnkd.in/es-ScrGE #NetZero #SupplyChain #Sustainability #PeopleBehindTheMark

  • This week, we said goodbye to Andrew Griffiths after six brilliant years at Planet Mark. It’s hard to sum up the impact Andrew has had in one post. He has helped shape our approach to policy, strengthened the thinking behind our certification and encouraged us to keep asking difficult questions and raising the bar. His influence has reached well beyond Planet Mark too. Andrew has become a respected voice across the sustainability industry, bringing people together, sharing his knowledge generously and helping to move important conversations forward. We’re going to miss his energy, honesty and ability to make even the most complex policy discussion feel engaging. Thankfully, it isn’t a complete goodbye. We’ll continue working together through the Carbon Accounting Alliance and, knowing Andrew, our paths will cross plenty of times. Thank you for everything, AG. We’re so proud of what you’ve helped build here and very excited to see what comes next. 💚

What is Earth Overshoot Day? It’s the day when humanity has used a year’s worth of what nature can regenerate. And that day is today. Think of it like an annual budget: the land, forests and resources we rely on, plus the planet’s ability to absorb the carbon we produce. By 30 July, we’ve used that budget. From here to December, we’re living beyond what the planet can regenerate in a year. This year’s date falls six days later than it did in 2025. That might sound like progress. It isn’t. The later date is mainly down to updated data, including new estimates of how much carbon the ocean can absorb. Once that change is stripped out, our demand on nature has actually continued to grow. In fact, this is the highest level of ecological overshoot ever recorded. According to Global Footprint Network, we’re using ecological resources 73% faster than Earth can regenerate them. That’s the equivalent of living as though we have 1.73 planets. We’ve only got one. The scale is huge, but businesses aren’t powerless. Understanding where emissions come from gives them somewhere to start: cutting carbon, wasting less and using resources more efficiently. We see our Members doing that work year after year. Not overnight, but by measuring their impact, finding where change is possible and keeping at it. If your business hasn’t measured its carbon footprint yet, our team can help you get started. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/ezU_3nA4 #EarthOvershootDay #Sustainability #CarbonFootprint #NetZero

We're really proud to shine a spotlight on one of our Partners, Design Conformity and the work they're doing to help furniture makers get ahead on carbon. 👏💙 Design Conformity are a leader in circular product certification, working with furniture manufacturers and interior designers around the world to reduce and report the carbon in what they make. And they've built the whole thing around a simple idea: it's not just about counting carbon, it's about designing it out. Here's why that matters. Furniture makers are increasingly asked for carbon data to win tenders, the footprint of their business, and of every product they make. It's a big ask, and for a lot of manufacturers, a genuinely daunting one. That's where our Partnership comes in: - We certify the operational side, your business carbon footprint, Scopes 1 and 2  - Design Conformity certify products to ISO 14067 through their Carbon Efficiency software  - Together, manufacturers get the full picture, company and product, and the evidence to back it in any tender What we love about working with the dc team is the shift in thinking it unlocks. Designing for reuse and refurbishment doesn't just bring emissions down, it makes better, longer-lasting products, proof that sustainability and good design pull in the same direction. If you're a furniture manufacturer working out how to measure your carbon and stay tender-ready, our team would love to help. • Entries for the Planet Mark Awards close on Friday, 4pm. One piece of advice before you write yours: don't overthink it. You don't need a PR agency or a polished submission. The entries that stand out are the honest ones, what you set out to do, what changed, and why it mattered. If you've done the work, you've got a story worth telling. Members can enter here before 4pm on 31st July: https://lnkd.in/etvu6sM9     #PlanetMarkAwards #NetZero #SustainableBusiness #SustainabilitySummit

Three years of measuring. And this year, Impellam Group recorded its first year of reductions. The global workforce and talent solutions provider reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 13.3%, bringing its overall footprint down by 1.7%. What made that progress visible: • Their emissions were split out division by division, across their North America sites, UK sites and Australia office. No single mystery number, but a clear picture of exactly where to focus reduction efforts next. • Every figure, assumption and decision was talked through along the way. Because data you don’t understand can’t drive decisions. Three years in, and a clearer picture of their footprint than ever. That’s commitment. 👏 If you're at the start of that journey, a footprint you actually understand is where it begins. That's the bit we help members get right: https://lnkd.in/eMXfQeWw #CarbonReduction #CarbonFootprint #Sustainability
