The UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment, the catalyst for responsible investment.
About us
The Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) is an investor initiative in partnership with UNEP FI and the UN Global Compact. Founded in 2006 and supported by the United Nations, the PRI has become the leading network for investors demonstrating their commitment to responsible ownership and long-term, sustainable returns. Pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign/development funds, investment managers and service providers make up the PRI network. Our goal is to grow investor interest in environmental, social and corporate governance issues (ESG), share best practice and support signatory needs in their fulfilment of the six PRI Principles.

"It's not about ideology. It's about data. It's about results." That's how Josselin Kalifa describes what tomorrow's investment leaders will need. He calls on them to broaden their perspective, recognising that tomorrow's investment decisions will require an understanding of climate science, technology, geopolitics and demographics - not just financial expertise. Congratulations Cambria Allen Ratzlaff, thoroughly deserved if we dare say so ourselves!
I was deeply honored to receive the Visionary Leadership Award yesterday at the Capital Connect Forum, hosted by the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust. This recognition felt particularly meaningful given my own history with the UAW Trust. My time there as Corporate Governance Director played an important role in shaping my career, my approach to leadership and my belief in the role investors can play in driving positive change. The UAW Trust has long been an innovator, not only through its work across investments and corporate governance, but through its commitment to developing and investing in talent across our industry. It was incredibly special to return in a different capacity and see that work continue. A special thank you to Meredith Miller, who presented the award and whose leadership and influence have had a lasting and profound impact on my career, and to Hershel Harper, for an engaging (and fun!) fireside chat on leadership and paving the way for the next generation of investment leaders. I am incredibly grateful to Meredith Miller, Hershel Harper, Jessica Gubing, Denise J. Lewis and the wider UAW Trust team for this recognition and for such a warm welcome. A lovely moment to pause, reflect and feel very grateful for the people and experiences that have shaped the journey so far.

#COP31 is an opportunity for investors to engage on the policy, finance and implementation frameworks that support long-term value creation and the real-economy transition. It comes at a critical moment for climate policy and multilateralism, as investors navigate rising climate risk, geopolitical volatility and uneven policy signals, highlighting the need for credible, coherent and investable frameworks. Why engage with the COP process? 🟢 Influence national policy and regulation which in turn affect investment conditions 🟢 Support policy coherence across markets – allowing you to allocate capital more efficiently 🟢 Create more investable conditions 🟢 Advance implementation through collaboration, which can support capacity building Our new briefing, ‘Decoding COP31: a policy engagement guide for investors’, sets out the key engagement opportunities for institutional investors ahead of and during COP31 and explains how engagement in the UN climate process can support #responsibleinvestment as it sets out the playing field for climate finance, adaptation, mitigation, just transition and carbon markets, which are all key opportunities for alpha. 📗 Read the full briefing: https://lnkd.in/eWSVWTVM 📅 Express interest in joining our COP31 engagement activities: https://lnkd.in/euMKVxMB 🔗 More information via MyPRI: https://lnkd.in/eiGWtpfx

“If the coming years remain a story of higher inflation, fiscal stress and avoidable climate damage, it will not be because the warning was missing.” In a new piece for Sustainable Views, Daniel Gallagher, Ph.D., examines how the approaching El Niño is being priced as a system-level financial risk and what this tells us about the broader challenge of climate resilience. As investors gain deeper insight into physical climate risks, attention is turning to whether #policy action can keep pace with the growing scale of those challenges. The risk is clear, but markets can reprice exposures and adjust portfolios, though they cannot lead on building economic resilience. South Africa’s asset owners are signalling strong commitment to responsible investment, but implementation remains uneven. Our latest South Africa asset owner survey report is now available, with findings showing encouraging momentum: ✅ 91% of respondents describe their organisation as a responsible investor. ✅ Most have formal RI policies in place. ✅ Most have embedded long-term risk and sustainability considerations into their manager mandates. Yet the findings also reveal a clear implementation gap, nearly half lack an independent mechanism to assess manager delivery against sustainability mandates and only a third require climate-related risk reporting from managers. The report highlights meaningful commitment across South Africa’s market and clear opportunities to strengthen governance and build capacity. We will continue to support our signatories and the investor ecosystem in South Africa in closing these gaps and advancing #responsibleinvestment across the country. We would like to thank our partners in this work for their support and collaboration: FSCA South Africa, EPPF, Futuregrowth Asset Management, Old Mutual South Africa. We also thank Krutham for leading the research process, the survey respondents, roundtable participants and interviewees whose openness gives this report its value.
