⚽ If football is the national game, why are so many people still unable to access it? As the Community Shield kicks off a new football season, millions of people across the UK will be watching the action unfold. But for many, taking part isn't as straightforward. Our latest Community Pulse report found:  📊 56% of community group leaders said young people had reduced or stopped participating in sport because they couldn't afford it.  📊 49% said difficulties travelling to activities were limiting participation.  📊 69% identified a lack of opportunities for young people in their communities as a major challenge. Yet every week, community football clubs across the UK work tirelessly to break down these barriers, creating affordable, welcoming spaces where individuals can play, develop new skills and build confidence. Because football should be for everyone, not just those who can easily access it. 💙 Every player and family involved with Krome 21 has their own journey. Some stories are very visible. Others are quieter - confidence growing, friendships forming, families feeling less isolated, and young people being supported and valued. That's the heart of Krome 21. Through football, Krome 21 creates a space where young people with Down syndrome, alongside their families, can connect and thrive together. In this video, coach Erica and parent Paul share what Krome 21 means to them, and the impact it has had on Paul's son, Maxwell. Their story is a reminder that sport is about so much more than what happens on the pitch. It's about creating opportunities for connection, friendship and community. While every individual has their own story, Krome 21 brings those stories together to create something even more meaningful: a community where everyone feels they belong. "Billy's Gym saved Alex*, and us as a family." We're celebrating the community organisations creating opportunities for young people to thrive. For 16-year-old Alex*, finding his place in sport wasn't straightforward.  Living with autism, dyspraxia, anxiety and social behavioural disorders, he often struggled with the expectations that came with traditional sport and found it difficult to connect with others. His family faced years of challenges as Alex* battled low self-esteem, isolation and poor mental health.  Then they found Billy's Gym and Wellness Centre CIC. Today, Alex* looks forward to every session. Through boxing and fitness, he's built confidence, found a sense of purpose and discovered strengths he didn't always see in himself. As his family puts it: "Billy's Gym saved Alex*, and us as a family."  Stories like Alex’s* are a reminder that community sport is about belonging, confidence and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported and valued. What happens when you invest in female coaches? You create opportunities that last. Through the Barclays Female Coaches for Girls Fund, in partnership with Barclays groups can access:  💙£200 per coach for up to 2 coaches  🎓Funding to gain a Level 1 qualification in football, tennis or cricket  And the impact goes far beyond training. It’s a simple investment with long-term impact. From the drama of the World Cup to the excitement of the Wimbledon, the speed of Silverstone to the determination on display at the Tour de France, this summer has given us plenty of unforgettable sporting moments. These events inspire millions of people to get involved in sport and try something new. But behind every athlete and every standout performance is a journey that often started far away from the spotlight. ⚽ A local club.  🙌 A volunteer coach.  💙 A community organisation creating opportunities for people to take part. "To be able to give something back is an honour and a privilege." That's how one Knight Frank volunteer described their recent volunteering day supporting a Sported community group. Community organisations provide vital opportunities for young people, often with limited resources and the support of dedicated volunteers. For the Knight Frank team, the day at Streatham Youth Club was a chance to get stuck in, support the local community and help create a positive space for young people to thrive. What happens after the medals are won? As the Commonwealth Games comes to a close, we'll celebrate the athletes, the records and the unforgettable moments. But there's another story worth telling. Long before the television cameras and celebrations, most athletes started somewhere much smaller. 👉A local club. 👉A volunteer coach giving up their evenings. 👉A group of people creating opportunities simply because they believed young people deserved them. Grassroots sport is where these incredible stories start, but right now, those community organisations are doing more than ever with limited resources. Our latest Community Pulse research found: 📊 85% of community groups are helping inactive young people become active. 📊 62% are prioritising volunteer recruitment and retention. 📊 82% say securing funding remains their biggest priority. The next generation of athletes, coaches, leaders and role models are already out there. The question is whether the community organisations supporting them will have the resources they need to continue their work. 💙 This July, 54 volunteers from Knight Frank dedicated their time and enthusiasm to support three incredible Sported member groups: 📍 Streatham Youth and Community Trust, Streatham  📍 HR Sports Academy, Tottenham  📍 The Grove, Bristol Across three volunteering days, colleagues rolled up their sleeves to improve spaces that are used by communities every week. At Streatham Youth and Community Trust, 26 volunteers worked hard to clear overgrown grounds, open up play areas, tidy pathways and restore a decking area. Their efforts helped prepare the site for new astro turf and created a safer, more welcoming environment for children and young people to enjoy. At HR Sports Academy, 12 volunteers transformed both indoor and outdoor spaces by painting the gym area, clearing pathways and grounds, removing unwanted equipment and rubbish, and reorganising storage containers to create more usable space for the organisation and its members. Meanwhile, in Bristol, 16 volunteers spent the day supporting The Grove (Young Bristol), painting fencing around the football pitch, weeding the entrance and surrounding areas, and revitalising green spaces to make them more attractive and accessible for the young people who use the site. As two volunteer reflected: 💬 "It was great to give back to the community in a small but thoroughly enjoyable way." 💬 "It was nice to see how easily a real difference could be made, and how important places like this are for our community." These days are a powerful reminder that volunteering can bring people together, strengthen communities and help grassroots organisations continue delivering life-changing opportunities for countless individuals. What does meaningful corporate volunteering actually look like? 📸 These wonderful before-and-after photos answer that question! Over two recent volunteering days at Streatham Youth and Community Trust and HR Sports Academy in Tottenham, colleagues from Knight Frank rolled up their sleeves to help transform spaces used by hundreds of young people and families. Through Limitless, our long-term partnership with Knight Frank, we're connecting professionals with community sports organisations to help create better opportunities and brighter futures for countless individuals. For community groups, partnerships like these provide much-needed capacity, skills and support that can be difficult to access. For corporate partners, they offer something equally valuable: the chance for colleagues to step outside their day-to-day roles, develop new skills, strengthen team connections and make a tangible difference in the communities where they live and work.
