About us
The chemical science community is making the world a better place. We're here to help. Our community's impact is incredible. Developing medicines, vaccines and diagnostics when the world needs them most. Keeping our food and water safe, clean and in good supply. Creating revolutionary technologies to generate and store clean energy. Inspiring generations of young minds, helping them forge their paths to fulfilling careers and lives. And so much more. Our strategy sets out how we will help the chemical science community: to teach and learn; to discover and share; to practise and accomplish; to speak up and be heard. Together, we will make the world more open, more sustainable, and more equal.

Becoming a Royal Society of Chemistry member has changed my life in so many different ways over the years! From attending scientific events and organising them for our local members, to having access to valuable technical resources that support my day-to-day work in the lab, the support I’ve received throughout my #CChem journey, and the amazing scientists I’ve met across industry and academia. And now, our latest project together: a promo video that I hope reaches chemists across all disciplines! Definitely a highlight of the year so far for me, and a wonderful experience doing something a little different in my natural habitat… the lab, of course! Thank you RSC, it has been an honour ✨

Chemical waste and pollution doesn’t always stay buried – it can persist in our environment and our bodies for years, long after its initial disposal. In the upcoming two-part BBC TV documentary series, ‘Buried with Michael Sheen’, the Hollywood star comes face to face with the reality of what is in our environment. Testing funded by the RSC helped uncover some of the shocking findings, which were first broadcast on BBC radio two years ago. While there has been some progress on water regulation since, we want to see more. We think two things would help: - Water reforms that better protect people and the environment from chemical pollution, including contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), through improved monitoring and action to prevent pollution at source. - A genuine 'polluter pays' approach, so companies responsible for pollution – not the public – cover the cost of cleaning it up, with industrial and waste pollution given the same scrutiny as sewage. That is why we have also provided input as the new Clean Water Bill takes shape, adding to our vision for chemicals management – details of which you can find in the comments. Learn more about the new BBC show, Buried with Michael Sheen, which airs on Monday at 9pm on BBC Two, BBC One Wales and BBC iPlayer ▶️ https://rsc.li/4g6qxI4 BBC | Smoke Trail Productions

Chemistry is HERS The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), in partnership with the BeST - Bengaluru Science and Technology Cluster (initiative of the Office of PSA, GoI), invites you to our first “Chemistry is HERS” workshop, bringing together researchers, educators, industry leaders, mentors and advocates from across the chemical and interdisciplinary sciences. 📅 12 September 2026, Saturday 📍 Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru 🕑 2:00 PM–5:30 PM Advancing women in chemistry and the chemical sciences The workshop will explore the realities, opportunities and challenges of building a career in chemistry and related disciplines. Through open conversations, expert perspectives and interactive discussions, we aim to create a space where participants can exchange experiences, build connections and strengthen the scientific community. Hear from RSC Global membership leader in person An opportunity to hear from Hilary White, Global Head of Membership, Royal Society of Chemistry, Cambridge, on how being part of a global professional community can support your career growth, professional visibility and development at every stage of your journey. What we'll cover ▪️ Opportunities across the chemical sciences Explore emerging research frontiers, cross-disciplinary applications and evolving career pathways connecting laboratory discovery with industry and societal impact. ▪️Communicating science and building visibility Discover how chemists can communicate their research, present ideas effectively, build professional visibility and contribute to conversations within and beyond the scientific community. ▪️Interactive breakout discussions with subject matter experts Engage in small-group conversations with experienced professionals and SMEs to ask questions, exchange ideas and gain practical guidance on research, academia and industry pathways across the chemical and applied chemical sciences. ▪️The challenges women face in science Have an honest conversation about the institutional, cultural and systemic factors that contribute to the long-term drop-off of women from chemistry and scientific careers—and explore how we can collectively help address them. Your perspective matters Whether your work revolves around molecules, reaction pathways, materials, chemical technologies or policy, your perspective belongs at this table. Chemistry curriculum: what's next for England? #6 How should chemistry education help young people understand global challenges? Our research found that 81% of young people think climate change and sustainability should be taught in school or college. Students also told us that current coverage often feels “minimal”, “limited” or “not talked about enough”. Teachers recognise this too. Nearly half of those surveyed in our Green Shoots research wanted more sustainability and climate change content within chemistry education. Chemistry plays a vital role in addressing challenges related to climate change, energy, food production, health and water security. A modern chemistry curriculum can help learners understand both the problems and the solutions. With a chemistry curriculum consultation expected this September, there is an opportunity to help shape how these topics are reflected in the future curriculum. How do you currently bring sustainability and climate change into your chemistry teaching? #ChemistryEducation #ScienceEducation #ClimateEducation #Sustainability #STEM #SecondaryScience #ChemCurriculumReform
