Last week, we were pleased to welcome representatives from PETROFUND Namibia and Namibia Training Authority (NTA) to the OPITO Aberdeen Centre of Excellence. The visit provided an opportunity to share insights into OPITO’s global approach to workforce development, training standards, quality assurance, apprenticeships and skills development, while exploring potential opportunities for future collaboration. Together, we discussed how OPITO’s expertise could support the continued development of a skilled, competent and globally recognised workforce in Namibia. It also reinforced the value of strong partnerships in building sustainable talent pipelines that support industry growth and long-term workforce resilience. We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring how we can work together to support Namibia’s energy future. 🌍 #WorkforceDevelopment #SkillsDevelopment #TrainingStandards #QualityAssurance #Apprenticeships #Namibia #OPITO

Across the Middle East and Africa region, the OPITO team recently visited stakeholders in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, reinforcing our commitment to supporting industry through both opportunities and challenging times. In Saudi Arabia, discussions focused on the future of workforce development, including visits to the Saudi Arabian Drilling Academy (SADA), ADES - Advanced Energy Systems and SANAD. During the visit, OPITO signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SADA to support the sharing of global best practice with emerging energy markets. The team also heard from SADA Managing Director, Faisal Al-Daihani, who shared research into the development of young professionals and its relationship to incidents and accidents. He is set to present his findings in Kuala Lumpur at OPITO Global 2026 later this year. Visits also showcased cutting-edge facilities, including advanced simulation technology and AI-enabled control rooms that are helping shape the future of safe and efficient operations. In the UAE, meetings with ADNOC Group, training providers and industry partners provided an opportunity to share learnings, discuss future partnerships and reaffirm OPITO’s ongoing support for the region as it continues to emerge from a challenging period.  Elsewhere in the region, the team met with a range of industry and training partners, including GTSC part of 3t - Middle East, RelyOn (Middle East) and Maersk Training. Discussions with Dragon Oil focused on workforce and operational challenges in the Caspian region, while engagements with Society of Petroleum Engineers International and Young ADIPEC explored opportunities for continued collaboration and support for the next generation of energy professionals. The visit programme also included a breakfast with colleagues at the OPITO Middle East & Africa Centre of Excellence, providing an opportunity for CEO Stephen Marcos Jones to thank the team for their resilience during the recent regional disruption and to hear first-hand about their experiences. We would like to thank our partners for their continued collaboration, support and dedication throughout a challenging period. Together, we continue to strengthen a safe, competent and resilient workforce across the Middle East and Africa. #OPITO #WorkforceDevelopment #SafetyAndCompetence #IndustryCollaboration #FutureWorkforce

______ As safety-critical industries continue to evolve, understanding the role of human factors is critical to improving safety performance. At a recent HSE Meeting hosted by IBP - Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis at their headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, OPITO was represented by the South America Strategic Partnerships team, Patrick Modolo, Felipe Santana and Felipe Rodrigues. Patrick moderated a panel discussion on Human Factors alongside industry leaders Rafael Ceni (Constellation Oil Services) and Marcelo Cury e Lima (NOV). The discussion highlighted an important point that human error is often a result of wider organisational, operational and ergonomic conditions, rather than the root cause of incidents, reinforcing the importance of adopting a systems-based approach to safety. OPITO is proud to contribute to industry conversations that support safer, more resilient workplaces and help advance safety performance across Brazil's energy sector. We look forward to continuing to engage with industry stakeholders and contributing to enhance safety and competence of the region's workforce. A special thank you to Carlos Victal and the IBP team for bringing industry leaders together to share insights and best practice. #OPITO #HumanFactors #SafetyLeadership #SafetyCulture #WorkforceCompetence #OperationalExcellence #WorkforceDevelopment #EnergyIndustry #SouthAmerica #HSE

Competence is the foundation of safe and effective safety-critical industries's operations. At the Suriname Energy, Oil & Gas Summit & Exhibition (SEOGS), Patrick Modolo, OPITO's Senior VP Strategic Partnerships South America, opened the Health, Safety, Security & Environment technical session with a presentation titled "From Certificates to Competence: Building Suriname's Safe Offshore Workforce Through Evidence-Based Assessment". The presentation’s key message was that effective Competence Management Systems (CMS) supports alignment between regulators, operators and the supply chain, ensuring safety-critical roles are clearly defined and personnel are trained and assessed against recognised competence requirements.  Supporting sustainable workforce development, operational excellence and a strong culture of safety in Suriname and the wider region remains a key priority for OPITO as we continue to strengthen our presence and engagement across South America. Thank you to Marny Daal, who chaired the session, and to GEP Americas for the organisations of this valuable platform industry collaboration and knowledge sharing. #SEOGS2026 #OPITO #CompetenceManagement #WorkforceDevelopment #SafetyCritical #OperationalExcellence #WorkforceCompetence #EnergyIndustry #OffshoreSafety #SouthAmerica
