  • Pool Street Progress: Shaping Safer & More Connected Routes Through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Great progress continues to be made on Pool Street, with the recent spell of good weather helping the scheme really start to take shape. After weeks of groundwork, ducting installations, and detailed preparation works, it is rewarding to see the transformation becoming visible across site. The emerging layout is already demonstrating how the completed scheme will improve movement, accessibility, and connectivity throughout the area. As a key route through Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the project will deliver a cleaner, safer, and more accessible environment for both pedestrians and cyclists, supporting more sustainable travel across the park. There is still plenty more to come, but this marks another significant milestone for the project and reflects the continued hard work, commitment, and collaboration of everyone involved on site each day. #KensonHighways #Infrastructure #PublicRealm #QueenElizabethOlympicPark #CivilEngineering #SustainableTransport #Highways #UrbanInfrastructure

  • Royal Docks Corridor Nearing Completion Final finishing touches are now being completed, with the buff surface layer being installed on the dedicated footpath and asphalt surfacing laid for the new cycle lane. It’s fantastic to see this scheme along the Beckton Corridor coming together. This project has been focused on delivering safer, smoother and more accessible routes for pedestrians and cyclists, helping improve everyday journeys throughout the area. The completed works will provide upgraded surfacing, enhanced lighting and improved connectivity from Beckton DLR through to Beckton Park and beyond. More importantly, this scheme forms part of a wider vision to connect into the Royal Docks Corridor, creating a continuous, high-quality walking and cycling route that links communities, transport hubs and key destinations across Newham. A great achievement by all involved, and another positive step towards delivering sustainable infrastructure and long-term public realm improvements for the borough. #KensonHighways #Infrastructure #Highways #CivilEngineering #PublicRealm #SustainableTransport #CyclingInfrastructure #Newham #RoyalDocks #UrbanInfrastructure

  • Kenson Highways was proud to take part in Ilford inGreen 2026, organised by Ilford BID, joining a day of volunteering aimed at giving back to Ilford town centre. The event brought together teams for litter picking, gardening and rain garden restoration, supported by the London Borough of Redbridge. As a highways contractor, caring for the public spaces we work in every day is part of who we are, and getting our team out litter picking, planting and restoring green spaces felt like a natural extension of that commitment. Together, the day's collective effort achieved: -10 rain gardens replanted and weeded -4 large ceramic planters improved -267 new plants planted -Litter cleared across High Road, Clements Road, Chadwick Road, Oakfield Road, Richmond Road, Ilford Hill and the A406 Underpass -Approximately 25 refuse sacks filled through litter-picking -Roughly 500,000 steps walked collectively on the day We're proud of our team for rolling up their sleeves alongside other local businesses and volunteers, and grateful to Ilford BID and the London Borough of Redbridge for the opportunity to get involved. It's exactly the kind of hands-on community work we want to keep showing up for.

  • 75 Tonnes of Carbon Saved Through Smarter Highway Delivery in Redbridge    Proud to share the completion of the Heathcote Avenue scheme for the London Borough of Redbridge, a project that demonstrates what can be achieved when sustainability is considered at every stage, not just on the carriageway.    This wasn’t simply a resurfacing project. We challenged traditional specifications, worked closely with our supply chain, and looked at every opportunity to reduce carbon while maintaining performance and safety.   Some of the highlights included:   First installation in London of Heidelberg Materials EvoZero concrete, used within the footway construction and kerbing works.   Trialling 25% RAP content within the footway asphalt using warm-mix technology to reduce reliance on virgin materials and lower production temperatures.   Replacing traditional granite kerbs with Durakerb, manufactured from approximately 88% recycled polymer and delivering significant carbon, transport and handling benefits.   Incorporating Low Carbon Materials’ ACLA aggregate within the binder course, helping create a carbon negative asphalt layer.   Using Carbon Lock asphalt, electric plant, HVO fuel, recycled aggregates, solar powered traffic signals and sustainable drainage features including a new rain garden.    The result? An estimated 75 tonnes of carbon saved across the scheme.    But for us, success isn’t measured by carbon savings alone.   While working in the area, we identified safety concerns at a nearby school and carried out £17,000 worth of resurfacing and road marking improvements free of charge, helping improve safety within the school car park and entrance area for pupils, staff and visitors.    A huge thank you to everyone involved, London Borough of Redbridge, Low Carbon Materials (LCM), Heidelberg Materials and Duraproducts in delivering a project that shows lower carbon highways delivery is achievable today through collaboration, innovation and a willingness to challenge the norm.    #Redbridge #Sustainability #Highways #NetZero #Innovation #LowCarbonMaterials #CivilEngineering #HeidelbergMaterials #Durakerbproducts #ACLA #WarmMixAsphalt

  • Transforming Romford Road: Enhancing Connectivity, Safety & Public Realm Kenson Highways is proud to be delivering the Romford Road Public Realm Scheme on behalf of Newham Council — a transformative infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity, safety, and accessibility across one of the borough’s busiest transport corridors. Spanning Romford Road and the surrounding area, this major investment is reshaping the public realm through a series of sustainable transport and urban enhancement improvements. Central to the scheme is the reconfiguration of the existing carriageway to create dedicated cycle lanes, supporting safer and more efficient travel for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists alike. Alongside these upgrades, new planting areas and tree installations are helping to create a greener, more attractive environment for the local community. The project also includes extensive footway reconstruction, new kerb alignments, full carriageway resurfacing, and carefully coordinated traffic management throughout the works programme. Together, these improvements will deliver a more resilient, accessible, and future-focused transport network for the London Borough of Newham.

  • Innovation and sustainability continue to drive the way we deliver infrastructure at Kenson Highways. Back in 2023, we were introduced to Low Carbon Materials at the Highways UK exhibition at the NEC Birmingham. Despite a modest stand presence, their innovative ACLA® aggregate immediately stood out as a forward-thinking solution capable of significantly reducing carbon within asphalt production. By June 2024, Kenson Highways became the first contractor to install this material in London — a milestone that also contributed to our recognition with a Green Apple Award. Following the success of the initial trial, we have now incorporated the same low-carbon approach into our carbon reduction project at Heathcote Avenue. The carriageway binder course utilised a mix containing 6.5% ACLA aggregate alongside 25% RAP, with approximately 275 tonnes laid on site. To further reduce environmental impact, electric plant was used wherever feasible throughout the works. Where electric alternatives were not possible, HVO fuel was adopted in place of traditional diesel. Combined with the low-carbon asphalt mix, the scheme achieved a negative carbon output when benchmarked against a traditional AC20 binder course. This project demonstrates how innovation, collaboration, and practical delivery can work together to create more sustainable highways infrastructure. A huge thank you to: -Dhiresh Bhatt for championing innovation and supporting the delivery of lower-carbon solutions -Lian Hutchings and the team at Low Carbon Materials (LCM) for their collaboration and expertise -Heidelberg Materials for supplying the asphalt mix It is fantastic to see the industry working together to deliver meaningful carbon reduction on live highway projects and helping shape a more sustainable future for infrastructure delivery. #KensonHighways #Sustainability #Innovation #LowCarbon #Infrastructure #Highways #CivilEngineering #NetZero #GreenAppleAwards #CarbonReduction

  • Supporting Great Causes at the Mayor of Enfield’s Charity Gala We were delighted to have attend and support the Mayor of Enfield’s Charity Gala recently — an incredible evening dedicated to raising funds for three fantastic causes: Macmillan Cancer Support, Royal Free Charity, and the Black Heritage Hub. As one of the main sponsors of the event, we were proud to play a part in such an important night. It was great to see our team represented alongside so many others committed to making a difference, with a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening. The event featured a raffle and silent auction, where we were pleased to come away with some memorable wins — including afternoon tea with the Mayor and a unique piece of artwork by a local artist (and even a Spurs shirt!). More importantly, the night was a huge success in bringing people together to support charities that provide vital services and make a real impact in our communities. A big thank you to the Mayor of Enfield for hosting such a high-energy and enjoyable event — from a full dance floor to a standout musical performance, it was an evening to remember. We’re proud to support initiatives like this and look forward to continuing our work within the communities we serve. #KensonHighways #Community #Charity #SocialValue #Enfield #GivingBack

  • Enhancing the Greenway: Safer, Greener, Better Connected At Kenson Highways, we’re proud to have delivered improvements to the Greenway in Newham — a unique 7km, traffic-free walking and cycling route running atop Sir Joseph Bazalgette’s historic Northern Outfall Sewer, connecting Victoria Park to Beckton. The Greenway is a vital active travel corridor and green space for East London. Our works focused on upgrading a section between Plaistow and Beckton, transforming an underperforming stretch into a safer, more attractive and accessible route for all users. We delivered new cycle and footways with resin surfacing, alongside upgraded street lighting and CCTV to enhance safety and usability. New wayfinding has been installed to improve navigation, while at each entrance we reinforced the Greenway identity through inlaid signage, exposed concrete finishes and new railings. A key feature of the scheme is the installation of decorative columns, continuing the design language introduced during the London 2012 Olympic Games — helping to connect this section with the area’s wider legacy. Working in collaboration with the London Borough of Newham, Thames Water and other partners, this project demonstrates how targeted improvements can revitalise existing infrastructure and encourage more people to walk, wheel and cycle. A fantastic result for the local community and a great example of what can be achieved through strong partnership working. #KensonHighways #ActiveTravel #Infrastructure #PublicRealm #Sustainability #Newham #Cycling #Walking

  • Today we celebrate the women helping build our industry. On International Women’s Day and at the close of Women in Construction Week, we want to recognise the incredible women at Kenson Highways and across the built environment. Construction and infrastructure have traditionally been male-dominated sectors, which makes the contribution of women across the built environment even more important. From site teams to leadership roles, women are helping drive innovation, solve complex challenges, and shape the future of our industry. Their expertise, leadership, and commitment are an essential part of the progress we see every day. At Kenson Highways, we are proud to work alongside talented women who lead, inspire, support, and build. Thank you to the women helping build the roads, infrastructure, and future our communities rely on. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInConstruction #BuiltEnvironment #Infrastructure #ConstructionIndustry
