🗣️ Let's talk health data! Health data can be used in lots of different ways: - Scientists might use health data from the NHS to develop new treatments and understand diseases. - A group of friends might use health data from their fitness watches to compete in a step challenge. - An artist might use health data from a community survey as inspiration for a mural. What could you use health data for? 🤔 In our next free Let's Talk Health Data webinar, Take the Lead awardees will share some of the creative ways they used health data to inspire and connect their communities. 🗓️ 2 September 2026, 1 to 2:15pm 📍 Online (free) Last year, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) (https://hubs.li/Q04t1yZk0) launched 'Take the Lead', a small grants programme supporting community organisations across the UK to lead their own health data activities. ➡️ Secure your place: https://hubs.li/Q04t1xsP0 HDR UK's Take the Lead programme supports community organisations across the UK to lead their own health data activities. New funding from ADR UK to the CD3: Cancer Data-Driven Detection programme will help researchers identify who is most at risk of cancer and why some communities are far less likely to be screened. This has the potential to transform how the NHS targets early detection. CD3 is a major UK-wide initiative jointly supported by Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), the EPSRC, the PETER SOWERBY FOUNDATION, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and ADR UK. The new investment will allow researchers to securely link cancer screening, diagnosis and health records with wider population data — building a clearer picture of why screening patterns and cancer outcomes vary so sharply between different communities and what can be done about it. 🆕 New research from Swansea University / Prifysgol Abertawe, Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, and the University of York reveals that individuals with #ADHD and learning difficulties are at a significantly higher risk of experiencing violence and requiring emergency care. The study highlights a critical gap in support and emphasises the need for hospital-based violence prevention teams to identify these vulnerabilities and connect neurodivergent patients with targeted support. We’re delighted to be part of a major new investment from Population Research UK (PRUK), working with Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), the University of Nottingham and the UKCRC Tissue Directory and Coordination Centre to help develop the new Population Research Gateway. At Swansea University’s Secure eResearch Platform (SeRP), Professor Simon Thompson and Emma Squires will lead our contribution, bringing expertise in #TrustedResearchEnvironments, #DataDiscovery, #Metadata, #DataGovernance and access to help make UK Longitudinal Population Studies easier for researchers to find, understand and use. The £1.625 million programme will build on existing discovery services and bring together metadata from across UK LPS, creating a more unified route for researchers to explore available data and identify the resources they need. We’re particularly excited about the opportunity to build on the infrastructure, tools and experience developed across SeRP and the Dementias Platform UK Data Portal & Associated Hubs, and to work with partners across the UK to create a sustainable discovery capability for population research. A fantastic collaborative programme to be part of, and one we’re looking forward to getting started on. #PopulationResearch #HealthDataResearch #LongitudinalStudies #ResearchData #SecureDataEnvironments #TRE #SDE #SeRP Population Data Science at Swansea University SAIL Databank UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration More information about the programme is available at https://lnkd.in/e-MsGqvr

We’re pleased to have partnered with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) to connect the Health Data Research Gateway with Health Data Australia. This means researchers can now discover health datasets across the UK and Australia through a federated search experience – improving dataset discoverability and supporting new opportunities for international research while keeping data securely governed by existing custodians.
🔎 Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) has launched its first international federated search partnership with the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), enabling researchers in the UK and Australia to discover health datasets across both countries through their respective national data catalogues. The new integration connects the UK’s national Health Data Research Gateway with Health Data Australia, a national health data catalogue operated by the ARDC. Researchers using either platform can now identify relevant datasets held in the other country, making it easier to find data resources that support international research collaborations and more comprehensive studies. Neil Postlethwaite, Technical Director at HDR UK, said: “This partnership is about much more than improving dataset discoverability. By making it easier for researchers in the UK and Australia to find relevant health datasets, we're creating new opportunities for international collaboration and helping to answer research questions that benefit from diverse populations and expertise. “This integration also provides a model for the future. We've developed a technical and operational framework that can be replicated with other trusted metadata catalogues. We see this as an important step towards a more connected global ecosystem for secure health data discovery.” Dr Adrian Burton, Deputy CEO of the ARDC and Director of the People Research Data Commons, said: “Science is universal and global. This federated infrastructure supports and connects the global networks of scientists pushing at the frontiers of knowledge for humanity. HDR UK and the ARDC’s joined up infrastructure reflects the combined efforts to generate the health and medical evidence needed to improve health outcomes for society.” 🔗 Read more about the new integration > https://lnkd.in/gDnspeiH
