Have you read our latest insight on the unfair dismissal reforms? With the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims set to reduce from two years to six months from January 2027, much of the focus has understandably been on policies, contracts and compliance. But is that where the greatest risk really lies? Druces LLP Partner Phillip Vallon considers what the reforms will mean in practice for HR teams and line managers — and why effective probation management, earlier conversations and greater management capability could prove just as important as having the right policies in place. Preparing for 2027 is not simply a question of compliance. Are managers equipped to address concerns early, manage performance consistently and apply fair processes with confidence? It was a pleasure for Druces LLP to be part of IIG Events UK–Saudi Real Estate Exhibition last week, bringing together businesses, investors, and professionals from across the UK and Saudi Arabia. Over three days, our team had the opportunity to connect with delegates, business leaders, and dignitaries from both countries, including Mufti Menk, and His Excellency Saleh AL Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services). Thank you to everyone who visited the Druces LLP stand and took the time to speak with us. It was great to strengthen existing relationships, make new connections and contribute to conversations supporting closer ties between the UK and Saudi Arabia. #Druces #IIG #SaudiArabia #UKSaudi #BusinessRelations

The new AIM Rules are now in force. Commenting on the changes, Nigel Gordon, Partner at Druces LLP, said: "We welcome the new AIM Rules and, in particular, the speed with which the new rules have been introduced. We at Druces remain confident that the new rules will reduce cost, complexity and execution risk for existing AIM companies and companies seeking admission to AIM, while maintaining the investor protections that underpin confidence in the market. The swiftness with which the Exchange has introduced the new rules shows their clear intent to make AIM more attractive." Earlier this year, Nigel analysed the proposed reforms and what they could mean for directors, founders, investors and advisers. Now that the new AIM Rules have come into force, his analysis provides valuable insight into the changes. The Druces LLP team was delighted to volunteer at this year's Spread a Smile Summer Party, joining colleagues to help bring one of the charity's biggest events of the year to life. Before the event, our volunteers helped prepare materials for the activity stalls, sorting sweets, flowers, ribbons, and more to ensure everything was ready for the day. We were also pleased to attend the event itself, where over 840 seriously ill children and their families enjoyed a fun-filled day of face painting, flower crown making, live entertainment and much more. It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to give back, work together outside the office and support such a special day for the families attending. #Druces #Volunteering #TeamDruces #SpreadASmile #Charity

"One of the biggest misconceptions I encounter is that employment lawyers add the greatest value when dismissal is being contemplated. The conversations that most influence legal risk often take place months beforehand, when probation processes are being designed, managers are being trained or early performance concerns first emerge." As the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims is reduced from two years to six months from 1st January 2027, many organisations are reviewing contracts, policies and probation procedures. In his latest insight, Phillip Vallon explains why legal compliance is only part of the picture. The organisations best prepared for the reforms will be those that invest in effective management, structured probation processes and early legal advice before issues escalate.
