We support ministers in leading the nation’s health and social care to help people live more independent healthier lives
About us
The Department of Health and Social Care helps people to live better for longer. We lead, shape and fund health and care in England, making sure people have the support, care and treatment they need, with the compassion, respect and dignity they deserve. The Department of Health and Social care sets the direction and coordinates action across the health and care system: public health and adult social care as well as the NHS. We create national policies and legislation, providing the long term vision and ambition to meet current and future challenges, and act as a global leader in health and care policy. We work with our partners to ensure everyone can access the health and care they need, from supporting people to have the best start in life, to staying in good health and, where that might not be possible, supporting people to live as independently as they can and ensuring they receive the best possible care. We want to instil a culture that values compassion, dignity and the highest quality of care. We support the integrity of the system by providing funding, assuring the delivery and continuity of services, and accounting to Parliament. We champion innovation and improvement by supporting research and technology, promoting honesty, openness and transparency. Above all, we encourage staff in every health and care organisation, including our own, to understand and learn from people’s experience of health and care and to apply this to everything we do.

New NHS data shows that due to the hot weather this summer, demand on services has soared. Despite this, the NHS has continued to deliver record breaking care. This is only possible due to the skill of hard-working staff across the country. ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/enE2djfp

In the newest edition of the Building for a Healthy Life (BHL) toolkit, we’re showcasing each of the 12 principles that make up the document over the course of the summer. The BHL's traffic light assessment helps SME housebuilders know what local planning authorities are looking for when it comes to design. It's free to access and covers key principles for nature-positive homebuilding. Today we’re highlighting Principle 3: Facilities, services and stewardship. 🪁 Download the Building for a Healthy Life toolkit: https://lnkd.in/eDDpP_-N #BuildingForAHealthyLife #Liveability #WeAreHomesEngland Design For Homes, TRUUD (Tackling Root causes upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development), Department of Health and Social Care

This week, Yvette Cooper visited patients at the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds, a purpose-built facility funded by Leeds Hospitals Charity that provides a model for tailored, joined-up MND care, as well as being a centre for vital research and education. Yvette Cooper said: "MND is a key area that we are focusing on, as part of the work that Andy Burnham wants to do to develop a new National Care Service. There's so much we need to do to fix what's been a broken system for so long, so we're identifying the first steps we can make, including here on MND." By working closely with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, patients and frontline professionals, we can build a better, more joined-up system, and ensure that patients with MND get the care and support they need as quickly as possible.
