Back in May, we had the pleasure of hosting a particularly special event at our Westmont Hospitality Hall. As part of their off-site trip, Black Tomato invited SOMA Surf for a day of co-creation, learning, and shared experience. 🏄♀️ SOMA Surf is an impact project that uses surf therapy as a tool for the empowerment of young African women and girls, while its social business, AMOS, extends this impact through hospitality and tourism. This made it especially meaningful for us to host one of the many programs supporting SOMA in reaching more than 300 girls since 2020. With the guidance of Marta Sotto-Mayor, participants collaborated on entrepreneurial and personal challenges, building confidence, exchanging ideas, and developing practical skills, while also heading to the beach to surf and take part in a clean-up. This initiative reflects many of the pillars we stand for: women's empowerment, sustainable hospitality and togetherness. Thank you to Black Tomato and SOMA for allowing us to be a part of it. I recently came back from a research trip to Kenya with Black Tomato, and I’m still completely blown away by the experience. I first visited Kenya years ago with my family and remembered it as one of the most iconic trips of my life. But returning now - older, and working within the travel industry - gave me an entirely new perspective on what meaningful travel can and should be. I had the privilege of exploring Nairobi, Samburu, Laikipia, Mara North, and the Maasai Mara - each destination offering something completely unique. What surprised me most is that Kenya is an adult playground in the best possible way. The experiences are endless, especially within private conservancies: camel rides, ATV adventures, mountain biking, Maasai runs, helicopter excursions, game drives, rhino conservation initiatives, anti-poaching dog units, and so much more. And one important thing I learned: Nairobi is not a “fly in, fly out” city. Spend time there. It’s genuinely one of the coolest cities I’ve visited and deserves to be experienced properly. Kenya is so much more than just safari. I feel incredibly grateful to be in a role - and at a company - where I get to experience the world in such an immersive and worthwhile way. A huge thank you to The Safari Collection, Elewana Collection, Segera Retreat, Cottar’s Safaris, Manzili House, and Hamilton House for hosting an adventure of a lifetime. If you’re looking to plan a trip you’ll remember forever, Black Tomato is the team you want by your side. #safaricollection #elewanacollection #segeraretreat #cottars #manzilihouse #hamiltonhouse

𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫. Our very own Tom Marchant, dad and the ultimate travel expert was recently featured in a fathers day write up in Yolo Journal where he shares some of the philosophies on traveling with children that he uses with his two young daughters. Here are five of our favorite recommendations for raising curious and courageous young travelers: 1. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫, 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞. It’s a myth that you have to choose between an ambitious trip and a manageable one. The sweet spot is about calibrating pace and intensity to their age group. 2. 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝. Ask them to puck a restaurant, be the family photographer, help you navigate. A child who feels like a participant rather than a passenger is a fundamentally different traveler. 3. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭. Look at maps, try local foods, watch movies and read books set in the destination to build curiosity and excitement. 4. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. Skip the guided tour and pick a few rooms to tackle. Ask the kids to find their favorite painting or art piece and explain how it makes them feel. The conversations that follow are always surprising. 5. 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. Start taking them out to eat young and make it a normal part of life rather than a big occasion. The dinner table is where conversations happen, curiosity grows and where children learn to sit and engage with others. What are your best tips for traveling with kids? Perhaps the greatest luxury in travel today is not simply seeing extraordinary places, but helping ensure they'll remain extraordinary for generations to come. As luxury travel continues to evolve, we're seeing growing interest in journeys that offer more than exceptional access and extraordinary landscapes. Increasingly, travellers are seeking deeper connections to the places they visit and a better understanding of how tourism can contribute positively to their future. Our newest regenerative travel itinerary across New Zealand and Australia was designed with that philosophy in mind. Across 15 nights, guests are introduced to the people, conservation initiatives, and restoration projects shaping the future of some of the South Pacific's most remarkable landscapes. From regenerative farming in New Zealand's Southern Alps to koala conservation research in the Blue Mountains, wildlife restoration programs at Aussie Ark, and the ecological stewardship that has made Lord Howe Island a global conservation success story. Alongside extraordinary experiences and exceptional access, the journey offers something increasingly more valuable: a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the collective effort required to preserve it. As wellness travel expands beyond personal wellbeing and experiential travel becomes more purpose-driven, regenerative travel is emerging as a meaningful way to engage with the destinations we explore. Not focused solely on what travellers take away from a journey, but also on how travel can contribute to the long-term health of landscapes, ecosystems, and local communities. What if the most valuable part of a family vacation isn't what happens during the trip? Recently, we shared a story from one of our travelers whose son, Julian, joined his family on a culturally immersive journey through Colombia. Reflecting on the experience, his mother Ashlea said: "Seeing how Julian responded to music was one of the trip's greatest pleasures." Somewhere between karaoke in Medellin, a lot of Kogi culture in Tungueka, community experiences, and the everyday moments that weren't part of the planned itinerary, something clicked. As she later put it, "now he has the music inside him." Studies have found that educational travel experiences can have a lasting impact on a child’s confidence, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to explore new opportunities later in life. But what no study can predict is what will spark something in a particular child. A conversation. A cultural tradition. A piece of music heard in a place they've never been before. That's the thinking behind Footsteps: creating family journeys designed not just to show children the world, but to create opportunities for discovery for everyone. Opportunities to find a new interest, uncover a hidden talent, or simply see a different path they hadn't considered before. #FamilyTravel #TravelWithChildren #ChildDevelopment #LuxuryTravel #Footsteps #BlackTomato

Our recent values trip to Portugal was a chance to step away from the day-to-day and reconnect. Not only with one another, but with the values that shape how we work. A particularly meaningful part of the trip was spending time with SOMA Surf and AMOS at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where our team worked alongside participants on a series of entrepreneurial challenges — from developing marketing strategies to ideating new business concepts — designed to build confidence, sharpen real-world skills, and fuel future ambition. SOMA’s mission of using surf therapy as a pathway to empowerment, wellbeing and independence for young African women and girls is both powerful and inspiring. Through AMOS, the social business of SOMA Surf, that impact is being extended into sustainable opportunity, with a focus on hospitality, tourism, surf and community-led enterprise. Since 2020, SOMA has already supported over 300+ girls through their many programs - a stat that we are proud to contribute to. It was a privilege to learn from such an ambitious and thoughtful organization and to share an experience that brought our team together through purpose. A day that will stay with us for a long time.

Black Tomato is who you call if you need to bring 600 celebrities and VIPs to Cuba for a cruise show in a country that doesn’t take credit cards, and that, at the time, didn’t allow Americans to travel there easily. I’ve known about the B2B side of their business for years because they’ve run adjacent to some of our productions, 'fixers' for brands attempting ambitious shoots in difficult places. That work has always fascinated me. What I just learned a lot more about is their consumer business, 'GET LOST' caught my attention, but doing the research i was surprised to learn Tom Marchant, James Merrett, and Matthew R Smith, have built a nine-figure company without taking outside funding. A deeper dive into another example of hospitality and experiential as major driving forces in the luxury sector.
