For years, the UK's energy transition has been measured by ambition. Today, that is changing. 🔄 As the Government increasingly focuses on economic growth, resilience, affordability and infrastructure delivery, success is no longer defined by the commitments organisations make, but by the projects they successfully deliver. 🏗️ 🔌 ⚡ In this latest article, Aurora's Chief Commercial Officer, Jamie McAinsh, explores why delivery certainty has become one of the biggest investment considerations facing UK infrastructure, and why the organisations removing barriers to delivery will create the greatest value in the years ahead. Infrastructure projects are becoming more complex, but connecting to the grid doesn't have to be. From day one, Aurora invested in building experienced in-house legal, land rights, design and delivery teams to help developers remove barriers, navigate complex approvals, and keep their projects moving. 👷 🏗️ ⏩ 🔌 ⚡ As demand for power grows across renewables, heavy industry, data centres, and transport, we're making electricity connections faster, flexible, and more straightforward. 🎥 Watch this video as our CEO, Simon Reilly, CCO, Jamie McAinsh, and Group Chair, Gregor Alexander explain some what makes Aurora different. Want to find out more about our growing in-house team? Our Head of Legal, Alex Lane, explores it in this blog: https://lnkd.in/eihTry5u #EnergyInfrastructure #GridConnections #NetZero #IDNO

Could a new Independent Transmission Owner (ITO) model help unlock some of the UK’s biggest grid connection bottlenecks? This article from Jonathan Cohen and Johnny Hartrick of Fladgate LLP explores Ofgem’s proposals to open up the delivery of high-voltage transmission infrastructure, with the potential to accelerate connections for data centres, renewables, and other strategically important projects. Our CCO, Jamie McAinsh, was asked to share his perspective in the article on why the success of the #IDNO model provides a strong precedent - and how bringing greater competition, private capital, and delivery capability into transmission could give developers more certainty and help get critical infrastructure connected sooner. Check out what he had to say by clicking below 👇 #ITO #Ofgem #UKGridConnections #DataCentres #Renewables
Could Independent Transmission Owners be the next major evolution in the UK's electricity market? Ofgem is exploring whether opening transmission delivery to new licensed operators could help tackle grid constraints and unlock faster connections for data centres, renewable energy projects and other strategically important developments. In the Green Energy Group’s latest article, Partner Jonathan Cohen and Associate Johnny Hartrick examine Ofgem's proposals and their potential impact on the grid connections market. The article also includes insights from Jamie McAinsh, Chief Commercial Officer at Aurora Utilities Limited on how an Independent Transmission Owner model could help increase delivery capacity and accelerate the development of critical infrastructure. You may have seen the news this week around proposals for data centre developers to commit significant upfront deposits to secure grid connections. It reflects a much wider shift taking place across the sector. 🖥️⚡🌐⏩ The conversation has moved from securing enough power to...instilling confidence that power will be delivered on time, with the certainty needed to keep major developments on track. ⌛ 🏗️ 🏢 In his latest article for Data Centre Review, Aurora Founder Director and CCO, Jamie McAinsh, explores why certainty is becoming just as important as capacity, and the five key trends reshaping how data centres connect to the UK's electricity network. 💡 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/dfQ7pv22 #DataCentres #AI #EnergyInfrastructure #DigitalInfrastructure #LastMiletoNetZero

The UK continues to face significant pressure to deliver new housing at scale. 🏘️⚡🔌 While planning and construction often dominate the conversation, getting the new infrastructure connected to the grid remains a critical factor in housing delivery. The UK Government is making progress, but it is not currently on track to meet its target. 🏡 Around 342,100 net additional homes were added between July 2024 and mid-March 2026, representing approximately 23% of the overall target. 📉 Official figures show builders started work on around 130,170 homes in the latest 12-month period; less than half the annual rate needed to achieve the target. 📊 Independent analysis by Full Fact currently rates the pledge as "appears off track", noting that delivery would need to accelerate significantly over the remainder of the Parliament. 🏗️ Savills forecasts average housing completions of around 167,500 homes per year through to 2030; well below the roughly 300,000 annual level required. Every new development requires timely access to electricity infrastructure. Delays to connections can impact build programmes, increase costs and slow delivery. At Aurora Utilities, we work with developers to provide network solutions that help keep projects moving and improve certainty around energisation. What do you think is the biggest barrier to accelerating housing delivery in the UK today? Let us know in the comments. #Housing #Infrastructure #GridConnections #Development

Power is no longer the only challenge for UK data centres, certainty is. News this week of Ofgem's proposed deposit scheme for data centres reinforces this. Aurora's Jamie McAinsh made this point in a contributed article for Data Centre Review this week, check it out here. 👀 💡 ⤵️ As #AI drives unprecedented demand for electricity, the conversation is shifting from whether projects can secure capacity to whether that capacity can actually be delivered on time. ⏱️ In the article, Jamie explores five major shifts reshaping the UK's data centre landscape: 1️⃣ Why power availability is overtaking location as the key site selection factor, 2️⃣ Why land rights and stakeholder coordination can be just as critical as grid capacity, 3️⃣ The true cost of connection delays, (sometimes exceeding £1bn) and why certainty has become a commercial advantage, 4️⃣ How Ofgem's proposed ITO licence could reshape transmission connections, 5️⃣ Why developers are placing greater value on proven delivery capability, flexible connection strategies, and confidence in milestones. 📖 Read the full article in Data Centre Review and discover why the industry's competitive advantage is increasingly being measured by certainty, not just capacity. https://lnkd.in/dfQ7pv22 #DataCentres #AI #PowerInfrastructure #IDNO #LastMiletoNetZero

What will it take to power the next generation of Britain's ports? ⚓⚡ That was the focus of our CEO, Simon Reilly's address at this year's British Ports Association Members' Lunch. As ports continue to electrify their operations, support shore power, and attract new low-carbon industries, resilient electricity infrastructure will become one of the defining enablers of future growth. Through our Power to Ports initiative, Aurora is helping port operators understand how electricity networks can unlock investment, accelerate development, and support long-term competitiveness. As an Ofgem-regulated Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), we help ports: ⚡ Deliver electricity infrastructure that supports future expansion and electrification. ⚡ Remove the burden of owning and operating private electricity networks, allowing port operators to focus on their core business. ⚡ Deliver, own, and operate resilient electricity infrastructure backed by long-term network expertise. ⚡ Improve project economics through capital contributions that can reduce the cost of upgrading electricity infrastructure. The conversation around ports often focuses on grid capacity, decarbonisation, and shore power. Those challenges are important, but they all rely on one thing: resilient electricity infrastructure that gives ports the confidence to invest for decades to come.
