Almost September. Already the leaves are dropping from our apple tree. So are the apples. I think the wind has been too much for them.Waste not etc, I gathered a basket of windfalls and chopped them up trying hard to disregard the odd buggy bits. I now have four boxes of stewed apples for the freezer.
My camera has finally died, so I'm using stock photos until I can replace it.
On to lovely kindnesses.
Over the last few weeks I have received in the mail, out of the blue as it were, some pretty cards and notes from kind blog friends, just asking how I am doing and sending words of encouragement. A postcard from Lourdes arrived yesterday. The sender knows how I long to return there.
Thank you to my friends from far away, it means more than you can imagine..
I was also sent the gift of a super book,
'Miss, what does incomprehensible mean?' by Fran Hill.
When I saw the book mentioned on Lesley's blog
'Nearly Martha again', I knew it was one that I would enjoy reading. I was very touched to find it sent in the mail by Lesley a few days later.
If you have a teaching background you will enjoy it, but even without that it is still a very well written book. In diary form, it's a day by day account of her experiences in teaching. It's funny but has also a serious side, dwelling on the backgrounds of some of the children, and relating to her own childhood.
Thank you Lesley.
Whilst we see here in Cornwall, sadly, some of the most rude and unpleasant tourists that we have ever known, I am so heartened to find glimpses of kindness and goodness.
Thank you so much.

I hope we weren't classified as those types of tourists Barbara, when in Cornwall or any place else, haha!!!!
Why are people often so rude in public - especially when on holiday when they should be having a great time.
Apples in the freezer sound awesome - I always eat cooked ones rather than raw.
Lovely book gift - enjoy your reading hours.
Hugs - Mary
I think the pandemic has a lot of people tense, and it shows in unpleasant ways. Hopefully tourist will be nicer.
Happy Reading!
So nice to have so many little acts of kindness in your life right now when life is so strange at the moment. So sorry to read about your experience of rude tourists, this pandemic is bringing out both the best and the worst in people. Take care.
Never, Mary! You were perfect turists!
oh dear, rude people are SO distressing!!! I think this pandemic is making people worse, esp if they don't have any outlets to help with the stress. I am so glad for the kindness you have been receiving!!!
It's so lovely to receive thoughtful cards and gifts via the post. Lesley is so kind to have sent the book for you. It sounds like something I'd be interested in reading and will add it to my long list of recommendations from bloggers.
When we were away in Tofino last week, we heard that the tourists, all Canadians because of the pandemic, were acting rudely and littering much more than in other years. So very disheartening.
Sorry about your camera and sorry too that some tourists have no manners or common sense.
I checked whether our library had the Fran Hill book but it doesn't. Too bad because it does sound like a great book.
How wonderful to receive surprises in the mail. Glad you could do something with those apples. Hope your week is a good one.
How wonderful to receive surprises. My neighbour brought me over a bag of apples today so I know what I will be doing tomorrow along with picking tomatoes, and preparing a zucchini for the freezer.
God bless.
Dear Barbara,
It was a pleasure to send you a card from France, of course! France felt 'safer' than Holland. Masks and more disciplined and polite people. There are scenes here in Holland that you think of as: 'My goodness, how can they ...!!!'
Enjoy your apples & love Carolien
Rudeness is wearisome and disheartening. It seems there is more of it around in difficult times. But I am so glad you were heartened by cards and kindnesses from friends near and far!
The unexpected book from your friend looks delightful. And how lovely to receive mail from friends everywhere, especially from your friend in Lourdes. Hopefully these lovely gestures can help offset those rude and unpleasant folks visiting your area. You'd think we all could be a little kinder and more thoughtful during these fraughtful times.
Your apples will be so tasty in the middle of winter. Yum!
Rudeness is always bad form. I'm sorry you've had to deal with some of it. How delightful to focus on the kindness of blog friends and real! Also how delightful to have apples ready in your freezer!
That's a sweet gift from your friend. Of course, I love books so I'll have to look into this one. Diary form is a fun one to read. Enjoy your autumn harvest of apples!
