Review: Archangel’s Eternity by Nalini Singh

Archangel's Eternity book cover by Nalini Singh

It isn’t often a romance series ends before I am actually done with it. Usually, I get tired of a series before it actually wraps up (looking at you Sherrilyn Kenyon). But not in the case of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series. I have read just about all of the books and have been anxiously awaiting the final story.

Unfortunately, I feel like all my “reviewing” or critiquing skills left me a long time ago. This is mostly a feelings review. And my feelings are both sad and happy when it comes to this final story.

It is absolutely always a pleasure to revisit the intricate and beautiful world of the Guild Hunters and angels. This book is no different. The love between Elena and Raphael is as luscious and deep as ever. However, it’s not totally smooth sailing (as that would make for a boring story). Feuds are brewing again, power shifts are happening and some archangels are facing new challenges. Scary challenges.

It would not be a Nalini Singh book without some happiness though and this story features a lot of happiness and joy. I love that the fear can be outweighed by the promise of hope and joy in these stories. I also thoroughly loved revisiting the beloved characters that populate this world. I’m pretty sure most readers will be satisfied with seeing past characters return and pop up in unexpected ways.

I cried a lot in this book. I am going to be totally honest. It felt like leaving a beloved friend by the time it was all done. I didn’t expect to feel the way I did. I expect subsequent re-reads will elicit similar emotions. It felt really lovely to see this story and its characters end on a high note, especially when the real world is pretty awful nowadays. The power of good romance fiction remains strong with Nalini Singh. I hope maybe someday she will choose to revisit this world in some way. If for nothing else so we can get more beautiful angel covers! These covers are works of art and I am so so thankful they never seemed to have gone the “cartoon” route. Thank the Lord!

Archangel’s Eternity is really the perfect wrap-up to this series. It will leave you wanting to dive back in to book one (which I immediately did after finishing the final) and seeing how it all began.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an e-galley of this book.

Review: Atonement Sky by Nalini Singh

I have spent years, literal years, looking forward to Adam’s story in the Psy/Changeling world. Fortunately for me and my awful reading skills, it did not disappoint at all.

Adam Garrett and Eleri Dias met a long time ago, when both of them were younger and more innocent. It was a very rough time in Adam’s life but he hoped justice was coming. Unfortunately that was not to be the case. And for Eleri, a J-Psy, this case changed so much of herself. Now she is facing death because her abilities, along with the collapse of the Psy-Net, have made it nearly impossible for her to live. She has arrived in Raintree, Arizona, to put one last justice case to rest and to apologize to Adam.

Yep, I fell in love with the Windhaven falcon group. Hard. It was really, really wonderful reading about changelings that have the ability to fly up close. The great power in the Psy/Changeling books (aside from the amazing love stories) is how Nalini Singh immerses you in this world where changeling characters can exist. Where these amazing capabilities exist! It just felt really special to me.

I also really enjoyed getting to know Eleri and her chosen friends, because despite being raised Psy, she does have friends, a core group in fact. The J-Psy, given the specialty of their power, have not necessarily had the ability to be Silent. This proves to be a strength as one would expect though Eleri and friends did not always see it that way.

I have been struggling with reading big time this year (and well, since 2020 honestly) hence the lack of reviews on this site. Atonement Sky is the eleventh book I have finished this year. There are not many romance series that I hang onto anymore but this series, yes. It hasn’t let me go yet. There are some fairly big plot movements towards the end of the story that will have big implications for future books. Something that has been an issue for humans since co-existing with Psy finally has the potential for change. I remain excited about where Nalini will take this series. It’s one of the wonderful things that have remained in my adult life.

Obituary: Bernard “Bernie” Paul Wethern

Bernard Paul Wethern (December 1, 1954–February 13, 2025) passed away peacefully at 7:52AM on February 13, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul. He is survived by his wife of almost twenty-five years, Sherri Wethern and her family. He is also survived by his two children, Sarah, and Brian (Heidi) along with his sisters, Mary, Margie, Anita, Clare, and Lori, and his brothers Phil and John. Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lois, his brothers Tom and Francis, his sister, Terri, and his daughter, Jackie.

Bernie worked for the St. Paul Water Department for his career, beginning in 1977. In his free time, he liked fishing, working on his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, and going to the casino. He also loved lottery tickets, and his life-long dream was to win the lottery jackpot. He was good with fixing cars and doing household repairs. He built a deck and replaced all the windows in the house Sarah and Brian grew up in.

Bernie had a bad heart valve from the time he was born. It was replaced when he was very young and then again in his thirties. Healthy eating and exercise were a big priority in his life.

Bernie did not always have the easiest of life and he was not always the easiest of people to know but he tried to show up for his family when he could. He helped Sarah purchase a new toilet and get it installed when her main toilet went on the fritz. He also was consistent about helping family in other ways when he could.

During the final days of his life, Bernie received excellent care from Regions Hospital and Our Lady of Peace Hospice. His family is grateful for the kindness these facilities showed us and Bernie as he passed away. His body will be cremated and an small service is planned for the future.

USA Today bestselling author Sara Ney sizzles with a quick-witted, sexy romp about an eager

When she runs into a muscular stranger at her go-to food truck, Harlow doesn’t realize he’s
Landon “Andy” Burke, the NFL’s most-wanted free agent, in town to talk contracts. She just
sees a hottie about to get burned by undercooked street food. Though she tries to warn him,
he shrugs her off, making a little wager instead.

In a messy twist of fate, Andy finds himself in the same hotel as Harlow. When she collects on
their bet, they make a mind-blowing—and bed-rocking—connection. But after the weekend,
she goes home to Green Bay to her goofy dad and corgi, ready to focus everything on work
again. Kissmet, however, has other ideas, when Andy knocks on her door…

Review: Primal Mirror by Nalini Singh

A new Psy/Changeling book is always a cause for celebration for me. Primal Mirror is not at all what I was expecting. This story went in new directions, sometimes very spooky directions. This book features Auden Scott, daughter of two well known and high profile Psy leaders. As one can expect if you know this world at all, being their daughter really wasn’t helpful to Auden. She is now a grown woman who is pregnant. The details of how she became pregnant are a mystery to her. But she will do everything in her power to protect her unborn child. (As you can tell, Auden isn’t like most Psy.) She asks to live in a very remote cabin in the woods so she can concentrate on making sure her daughter is healthy. She has other reasons though, reasons she is not going to tell her mother’s staff.

Remi Denier is alarmed and fascinated by the stranger living in his territory. He knows there is much more to this woman than meets the eye. In fact, his first encounter with her leaves him chilled to the bone. But not with menace or fear, rather with an intense love he has tried to forget. This encounter has him coming back for more and becoming much more interested in Auden Scott than he ever intended.

Let me just say there are some very nefarious things afoot in the Scott household. Many readers will get the hint early that what is taking place with Auden is past the pale. But Auden is a Scott in some key ways and she is not a doormat. She wants to get to the bottom of what is happening in her mind.

Add in Remi and well, this story packs a punch. I admit, I was fascinated by Auden and her life within the Scott household. I was also really interested in her Psy talent which I thought was rather new amongst what we have read about the Psy. It really seems like there is still so much to tell about this world. I cannot imagine it ending anytime soon which for me, is a blessing! Please keep writing these stories and this world, Nalini!

Review: Bride by Ali Hazelwood

When I learned Ali Hazelwood was coming out with a paranormal romance I was both excited and nervous! I remember clearly when my excitement for paranormal romances kind of peaked back in the heyday of Sherrilyn Kenyon and Christine Feehan. I haven’t revisited many paranormal romance books since but I’m such a big Ali Hazelwood fan, I had to take a risk! I am so glad I did.

Misery Lark has always felt like an outsider—as the daughter of a Vampyre councilman, she’s been volun-told to sacrifice her freedom and needs for the good of her kind for her entire life. The newest sacrifice? Upholding a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, by entering an arranged marriage with the Alpha Were.

So, this book did a lot of good things for me. Great chemistry between Misery and Lowe! There is a cute baby werewolf sister that I found very charming. And this book kind of had the feeling of another famous “Bride” book “The Bride” by Julie Garwood. (This may just be me feeling this so don’t read too much into it.) But there is betrayal, there is a union between two warring “clans” and there are some very dastardly villains. Lowe is big into the smell of Misery. But he also knows their marriage should not be happening.

I liked Misery a lot as a character. Her father is pure evil but somehow she has managed to put up with him. Believe me, I wanted her to take him out. I read this book quite a few months ago so I admit, my memory is kind of vague of all the plot details but I greatly remember enjoying the book. I just really connect with Ali Hazelwood’s writing. I am excited to explore this new paranormal world more in the future (hopefully).

Bride is available now!
