Feb. 13th, 2016 06:30 amFriggin a. It's quarter past 6 am on a Saturday and I've been awake for an hour already. I am STARVING and really want to make something to eat but Mike is still asleep. Also I have nothing easy or quiet to prepare...I should have picked up more convenient food when I was at the store yesterday, because I refuse to leave the house this entire long weekend since Canada suddenly remembered it was winter and decided -20C temperature was a thing.
I had 3 interviews this week: one for a co-op position in the summer, and two full-time positions in Toronto. I hope I get one of these full time jobs because I am really fucking sick of being in a major that is so overtly hostile to women.

Jan. 17th, 2016 08:41 amOnce again, my happiness at returning to classes is short-lived thanks to my shithead classmates. I will preface this by saying there are some classmates who are not complete assclowns, but the majority of them can go suck a fuck. (#NotAllClassmates)
I'm the only woman and oldest person in my cohort, and the last two years have been spent seething with rage at these douchebros' juvenile antics being allowed to continue unchallenged. They play video games in class during lectures. One of them likes to make stupid dripping sounds at random like a fucking 10-year-old who just discovered how to do that. They bitch and moan about deadline extensions AND GET THEM after I have worked my ass off to get assignments completed and turned in on time. And then there's the ever-present deliberate exclusion from conversations and study groups that has been ongoing since day 1, but guess who they come running to when they have a problem or need something. The guaranteed ability to succeed while being both mediocre and banal must be nice for these guys. It's almost too much to take, but I only have to stick it out for this semester, one more work term, and one final semester before I graduate in December.
I still haven't heard back about that job I interviewed for before school started, which means they're probably not gonna hire me. Oh well, I was only hoping to get that job so I wouldn't have to sit in class with The League of Extraordinary Douchebros any longer.

I feel stupider for having read the whole thing, because it started out pretty intelligently, complaining that the expectation for men to be interested in sports and not being able to sew was sexist (indeed it is...thanks, patriarchy!), and then veered off into MRA-La-La-Land with "ZOMG, let me tell you, Internet, ladies nites at bars and wimmenz-only gyms and swingers clubs that don't allow single menz are soooper sexist y'all."

This whole lack-of-a-job thing is really starting to piss me off. I kinda don't want to go to that interview for the old folks home today, I just figured out it doesn't even have enough hours to cover rent. At least we're paid up until May so I have a month or so before I really have to panic.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, Mike's mom finally sent us the notarized statement required as proof of our common-law relationship. Gave up on the one from our friend Andre because I only needed two and my mom already sent hers.
I'm happy to announce that everything is done, the fees are all paid (thanks to my mom and her American Express!), and we're finally ready to send the PR application! WOOHOO!
According to CIC, it takes around 85 days from the date it arrives in Mississauga to approve Mike's sponsorship, so it'll likely be approved around Halloween. Then it's sent to the CIC office in Buffalo, and they tend to move things through pretty quickly in cases like ours: no previous marriages or kids, no criminal history, plenty of supporting documentation, etc. According to a PR application tracker website, the average is around 115 days for Buffalo to approve PR and send out the passport request after they receive the application from Mississauga. I'm guessing I'll be a permanent resident of Canada around the end of February/beginning of March...I couldn't care less WHEN it happens as long as it's before my NAFTA visa expires May 31! I could easily get a temporary visitor extension if things aren't approved by then, though, especially considering the PR application in progress.
I will, however, probably have to get yet another FBI fingerprint/background check, since Mike's mom took her sweet-ass time getting that letter to us. I got the background check letter in frickin' May and they're only good for 3 months.
