Raphael AI is a browser-based AI image generator at raphael.app that puts several third-party image and video models behind one prompt box and hands the results to built-in editing, background removal, uncrop, upscaling and watermark-removal tools. Its terms describe the service as AI-powered image generation, video generation, editing and related creative tools, where some features work without signing in and others require an account, subscription, credits or payment.
The same terms call Raphael an independent product and interface layer built on in-house systems and third-party model providers, and state that it is not affiliated with or endorsed by those underlying model providers unless explicitly stated otherwise.
As a free AI image generator, Raphael AI has a low entry barrier: you can start without an account or a credit card, and a zero-credit basic model runs in a slower queue. Free images carry a watermark, and under the current terms free users may use generated content for personal and other non-commercial purposes only.
One AI tool directory, which added the product in April 2025, estimates about 1.2M monthly visits between January 2025 and August 2026, a third-party estimate covering desktop traffic only. That entry still describes raphael.app as a FLUX.1-Dev generator, although FLUX no longer appears in the current model list, so older reviews may describe a different engine and pricing. The name is also shared: a separate "Raphael AI" listing on a product-launch community points to another domain, while this page covers raphael.app.
The generator panel combines a prompt of up to 3,000 characters, up to three optional reference images, aspect ratios of 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 5:4 and 4:5, and one to four outputs per run, with resolution set to 0.5K and quality to Low by default. The feature copy says scene-aware routing picks a model for you, the free Basic model returns an image in about 8 seconds, and paid plans skip the queue. The model picker itself labels the default free Seedream 3.5 option with a cost of 0 credits and an estimate of about 60 seconds.
The current image model list spans three families:
Image-to-image keeps the subject, product, composition and perspective of a reference photo while rewriting season, material, lighting, background or shooting style. Models that accept several references let you upload subject, outfit, product, background or style as separate images. The site states that exact detail preservation is not guaranteed.
A template gallery skips prompt writing: pick a template, upload one reference image, and the template supplies the styling prompt. Examples include a professional headshot generator, old photo restoration, a product photo generator and room redesign.
The editing suite lists an Image Editor, Remove Background, Image Expand, Image Upscaler, AI Watermark Remover and Transform Style:
These tools chain together. After a generation you can continue with image-to-image, regenerate with another model, download the result, or send the image into an image-to-video workflow. Batch work is gated: the upscaler and watermark remover take up to ten images at once only for members or users with paid-source credits.
The video generator supports text-to-video and image-to-video, start and end frame control, and an audio toggle on supported models. Image inputs can be PNG, JPG, JPEG or WEBP up to 50MB, and generation takes roughly one to five minutes depending on the model. The roster includes Seedance 2.5 for clips of up to 30 seconds with native audio, Veo 3.1 with native audio and 4K output, MiniMax H3 for 2K video with native stereo audio, and Kling 3.0. Video credits scale with model, length, resolution and output count.
Using any of these images in ads, client work or store listings is licensed only on a paid plan.
Raphael AI fits best when the output stays personal or when a subscription is acceptable.
It is a weaker fit for:
Free use starts without an account, and signing in adds free daily credits; the upgrade copy contrasts 2,000 credits per month on Pro with 10 per day on the free plan. The pricing page opens on yearly billing, so the large figure on each card is the monthly equivalent of an annual plan. A banner across the site labels a 50% discount as limited-time ("Limited-time 50% off"), and the yearly toggle carries the same -50% badge.
| Plan | Billed annually | Monthly billing | Credits per month | Listed capacity | Unlimited-use models | Queue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $10 per month ($120 per year) | $20 per month | 2,000 | Up to 2,000 fast images; up to 250 basic videos | Seedream 3.5 | Priority queue |
| Ultimate | $20 per month ($240 per year) | $40 per month | 5,000 | Up to 5,000 fast images; up to 625 basic videos | Seedream 3.5, Seedream 3.5 Pro | Highest priority queue |
| Max | $40 per month ($480 per year) | $80 per month | 10,000 | Up to 10,000 fast images; up to 1,250 basic videos | Seedream 3.5, Seedream 3.5 Pro, MiniMax H3 Turbo, MiniMax H3 | Highest priority queue |
All three plans list no watermarks, batch processing with AI tools and full privacy. The pricing FAQ explains the privacy item: subscribers' images are not shared in the public gallery or suggested images, and subscribers see no ads. Cards also list subscriber discounts on specific models, such as 70% off MiniMax H3 and 50% off GPT models, and a separate Credit Packs tab sits beside the billing toggle.
Direct plan changes are not currently supported; you can cancel renewal at any time and keep benefits until the current billing period ends. Purchases of digital and virtual products are non-refundable as a general rule, though refund requests are reviewed case by case and usually answered within 3 business days. If prices rise, the FAQ says annual plans already bought will be honoured.
An AI tool directory lists Magnific (formerly Freepik), Shutterstock, OpenArt, DeepAI and Leonardo.Ai among its Raphael AI alternatives. Two of them contrast usefully:
On a third-party review platform, raphael.app has 5 reviews averaging 2.9 out of 5, too few to support a quality conclusion. The same page suggests peers with larger samples: Leonardo.Ai at 4.6 (1K reviews), PicLumen at 4.8 (4K) and Pollo AI at 4.3 (5K). These ratings cover different companies and sample sizes, so they suggest where to look rather than rank products.
The free tier is described two ways. The feature copy promises unlimited free generations in basic mode with no sign-up, while FAQ answers say signed-in users get truly unlimited free generations in basic mode. The image editor's FAQ adds that free use is limited per day and may be queued during busy periods. The generator, pricing and terms pages do not say whether credits come back when a text-to-image generation fails; per-image refunds are documented only for the upscaler and the watermark remover.
The terms are explicit: paid subscribers may use generated content for personal or commercial purposes, while free users may use it for personal and other non-commercial purposes only, unless Raphael expressly states otherwise. The FAQ adds that you retain ownership of the images you generate, and you are responsible for making sure prompts, uploads and outputs do not infringe third-party rights.
Some pages contradict that rule. One homepage FAQ answer says generated images can be used for both personal and commercial purposes. The background remover's FAQ goes further, saying processed images are yours for any purpose, including commercial projects, with no licensing restrictions. The terms and the pricing FAQ both limit commercial use to paid subscribers, so the more generous answers are inconsistent copy, not a licence. The watermark remover can also remove Raphael's own watermark "while still respecting image rights and applicable law", but the terms tie commercial rights to a paid subscription, not to the watermark.
The terms forbid generating NSFW, sexually explicit, nude, semi-nude, sexually suggestive, pornographic, uncensored or 18+ content, as well as hateful, infringing, harassing or deceptive material. Raphael may block, remove, refuse to process or restrict access to content or accounts that break these rules.
The watermark remover says covered areas will not always be perfectly restored, because large overlays or important details may change. The service is provided "as is", and the terms allow any feature to be modified or suspended without notice, as the paused Studio canvas shows.
No account is needed to start generating images. Signing in adds free daily credits, saved history and higher-resolution models up to 2K.
Not under the current terms. Free users may use generated content for non-commercial purposes only; commercial use requires a paid subscription, even though some FAQ answers on the site say otherwise.
No. The terms prohibit NSFW and 18+ content, and Raphael may refuse such requests and restrict the accounts involved.
Digital purchases are generally non-refundable, but refund requests sent to support are reviewed case by case. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps benefits until the billing period ends.
Not yet. There is no public API at the moment, and the service runs in desktop and mobile browsers while dedicated mobile apps are in development.
