Last Day at the Park

The noonday light mandates
that he enjoy this moment,
that he forget the past and the future,
but he knows, he knows
that this day is already gone
and he will soon be folded
in dark and regret.

The light slides into the water
and warmth fills his fading
eye. His hand imagines
her touch and an old dog emerges
from the bushes of his mind
and makes a final look.

Written for Weekend Writing Prompt #407.

Doing it again

Wasn’t sure if I was going to do the A-to-Z Challenge this year but I’ve also gotten lazy with my writing recently. So let’s do it.

My theme this year is going to be Characters. Exciting, right? No? Wait, don’t go. Um…there’s a twist! Yeah, I’m going to…um…okay–what if they bump shoulders with each other every once in a while? Eh? Eh? Okay. And, in addition to that, some of the pieces might be prose and some might be poetry and some might be…other things. Yeah, how about that?

God, what an obnoxious paragraph that was. But yeah, I’m thinking each post will focus on an individual character or archetype. But some posts might reference previous characters mentioned. Maybe they can all be located in the same town. I don’t know. I haven’t started on writing any of these yet.

So wish me luck, and I will wish you some if you’re participating this year.

Feel free to check out the nonsense I wrote in previous years.

2021 – Song Titles
2022 – Values
2023 – Ekphrasis
2024 – Song Titles (again…but different)
