Hey guys! Just an FYI, I’m actually surprised I’m remembering to do this, but! I’m actually going on vacation for the next two weeks, and I honestly forgot to write any posts for this Wednesday and next. So, this is a small post to tell you why there won’t be any reviews for a couple of weeks, but then I’ll be back on it!
In the meantime, what do you bring for entertainment while on vacation? My go-to is books, as well as some downloaded YouTube videos. I also bring my journal so I can write about my days and how I’m feeling.
Oh dear…I thought I would be better at updating this blog, but life will do that do to you.
Anyway, hi! Hello! Happy New Year and I hope that your holidays have been a restful time for you. If not, I hope that you’re finding rest now. As you know, it is now January, and the year is 2022. We are also getting close to our third year of pandemic. Which…is surreal to say. All I can say is I hope we start to see unexciting times sooner rather than later.
But this is not a blog about the pandemic, this is a blog about books! I will say that I’m trying to figure out how I want my year to look, and how things turned out for me last year, that I have missed writing and interacting on this blog. I also acknowledge that my job as it is now is a lot more time intensive than my previous job was, meaning that I don’t have as much time to read or even write reviews. But, as was mentioned in my last update, I believe, I am starting to find more ways to actually read, even if it wasn’t as much as it was previously.
So, my plan for this year, is to try and post a book review at least once a week. Most likely on Fridays as writing a review is chill, and my Fridays tend to be somewhat more calm than the rest of my days. And I stay later than the rest of my office-mates as I come in later than they do. So I can use my evenings while waiting for prints to finish to write up a review. Or just about anything else I’m working on.
This is the hopeful plan at least, with my first review to be posted this Friday. So, I hope to start interacting with everyone again come this Friday!
Hey everyone…I do know that it has been a while since I’ve updated, or even written on this book blog. The main reason for it is because I had started a new job back in the beginning of June and it has kind of taken over my life as I am trying to figure out how to work with it. I have been working in an academic library for the past 3 months and I. AM. LOVING. IT!!! I love my new job and I love that I seem to have actually found my dream job. Which I wasn’t really expecting as I thought I had found it back in the public library system I was working in the last five years.
Working in an academic library though, I’ve been exposed to so much more as well as being able to work with college students to help them figure out how to be legit adults but to also learn new things from them as well. I’ve also seemed to have found my people, the weird, the fantastic, those that want to improve the world in weird and wild ways! I am so glad to be working where I am working right now!
Because of that though, it does mean that I have less time to read and review books. I do miss reading for pleasure, as a lot of my downtime is taken up by reading fanfiction and playing video games as it doesn’t take up a lot of brain space. A lot of my brain space right is being taken up by learning what I need to do and this new working environment. And as I’m slowly settling into my new routines, I’m starting take back some brainspace to actually read and write for myself again.
I will say that I will strive to make more time to read and write reviews for myself again. I’m not going back to my old schedule of posting every weekday, but I will try to post at least once a week right now, even if it’s just a little post saying what I’m currently reading and working my way through right now.
That’s all I have right now. I hope that for everyone else, that your Fall weather is treating you right. I hope that if you’re in school, that you’re doing okay in school. If you’re working, I hope that your work is treating you well. And if you are sick or hurting, or just tired, I hope that you find the peace and calm you need.
Hey guys, sorry I’ve been absent most of last week. My allergies have been driving me mad and I got a bad head cold because of it. I haven’t been able to really focus and it’s still a little hard to focus right now. I’ll most likely not be writing this week either as I’m still dealing with this cold and things at work are picking up.
Don’t worry though, I will pick up writing again next Monday, and things will assume their regular schedule after that. I just need to rest and recuperate just a bit and then we’ll back into our shenanigans!
I hope that you all have enjoyed your Spring/Fall weather thus far, depending on where you’re reading this from. I hope that the future brings beautiful weather and hearty health. Until next week, I’ll see you guys around!
Hey my peeps! It’s the first Monday of April and it’s time for the March Update. I’m starting to feel much more optimistic about the coming future, and it is helping that Spring is here/on it’s way. My tulips have started to bloom, my lilies are coming up, and my pansies are (surprisingly) still alive after this past winter! And things in general are looking up, so yay!
Either way, the month of March, I read a total of 15 books; 9 books, 4 comics/graphic novels, and 2 audiobooks. I will say that 15 books is actually pretty good for me this past month, and it helps that I’m reading a lot of books that are “required” for me due to Sequoyah Team. Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying those books, but it’s nice to have a hard reason to read books that I possibly wouldn’t have the mental capacity to read at this moment in time. AND I’m getting a lot of books to (possibly) use in a program idea I have come the Fall. Anyway! Onto the titles of the books I’ve read this past month.
I read A Complicated Love Story Set in Space by Shaun David Hutchinson, Persephone Station by Stina Leicht, Don’t Tell a Soul by Kirsten Miller, Bloom by Kevin Panetta, Sleepless Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 by Sarah Vaughn, Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo, Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas, If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane, The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary, One of the Good Ones by Maika Moulite and Martiza Moulite, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 1 by Alan Moore, Muted by Tami Charles, The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna, and The Awakening of Malcolm X by Ilyasah Shabazz. All of these books were interesting and quite a few struck a cord of some sort while I was reading them.
I do know that while March was a good month for reading, it all resets this month and we’ll just have to wait and see what I’ll be reading for April. I have a feeling I’ll be outside and reading more in my backyard, especially with the extremely warm weather this week! What are you plans for reading this month? Do you have a set TBR, or you just reading what strikes your fancy? Comment below and let me know! I’m always looking for new books!
Hey guys! I know, another writing post, but this post should have gone up on Monday but I got distracted and wrote a review instead, so you get the February Update post today! And I will say that I lost another two weeks of my life thanks to the huge winter storms that blew through OK those middle two weeks of February. Everything in our house is safe thankfully, but I still think it’s distantly February. Similar to how I thought it was two months behind what it actually was last year due to shut down.
Anyway, we’re not here to talk about that, we’re here to talk about all the reading that I did in February. And I wasn’t too shabby, if I do say so myself. I read a total of 7 books this past month, with 2 audiobooks, a ARC and 4 books. I read this month Remote Control, The Paris Library, Wings of Ebony, A Pho Love Story, Everything All at Once, Lost Boy, and All the Girls I’ve Been. All of these books were excellent and I’m glad I got to read them this month. I hope to be able to read more books throughout March, and I do have a four day weekend coming up so we’ll see how much reading I actually get done this month.
Currently reading and overall reading goal for 2021
What books did you read this past month? Did you enjoy what you read? Comment below and let me know! Also, what are you plans for reading this month? It’s always good to have others out there to be reading what you’re reading so maybe find someone to pair up with in the comments and check in on them. Or don’t, you know, I’m not your mother 😛
Hey guys! The new year is here and I can say that I’m so very glad that it has come! 2020 was the year of the dumpster fire and I’m glad it’s done. Now, we look to the future with hopeful hearts and (hopefully) open minds and strive to make this year a better one than last year.
As promised, I do have an announcement: I’m on the Sequoyah High School reading team for the next three years! I get to read books and help decide which books are going to be on the Sequoyah lists, which if you don’t know, or aren’t from Oklahoma, it’s an award that honor Sequoyah, a Cherokee man who created the Cherokee syllabary, the 86 symbols representing the different sounds in the Cherokee language. This also allowed the Cherokee language to be preserved and taught.
So, be on the lookout for the books I’ll be reviewing, you may recognize them later in the year. Anyway, with that out of the way, it’s now onto my December Update, where I tell you what I read and the breakdown of types of books that I read throughout the month of December and how my reading goal for whole year went. I will warn you now, I may not have a lot, so don’t be too disappointed.
Currently reading and reading goal for the year.
In December, I read a total of 4 books. Yep, 4 books. I will say though, December is one of the harder months out of the year for me personally, so that number doesn’t really surprise me. Especially with how 2020 in general went. I read Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks, Vanity and Vampyres, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and Elysium Girls. 3 of these were library books, with 1 being an ARC I received from the author. Other than that, I didn’t do a whole lot of book reading. I did do a LOT of fanfiction reading, it seems to give me the peace and focus because I usually already know the characters and so don’t have to reinvest energy to learn about a whole new set of characters.
As for my overall year reading, I read a total of 123 books and my goal was 52 books for the year. One book for every week. This will be my goal again for this year. I want to read because I want to read, not because I want to get a certain number on the board. And if I don’t want to read, I want to be able to choose not to read as well. 52 books for this year, and we’ll what comes of it.
What are you goals for reading this year? How do you plan on reaching them? Comment below and let me know, I may need some new strategies as my reading seems to have lost all focus thanks to last year. Happy New Year! And I hope that this year is better than the last for you in more ways than not!
Okay, I’m going to be very honest here, but as the end of the year comes, I’m most likely not going to be blogging as much. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love coming on here and talking with everyone and telling everyone what I think about the books I’ve been reading. It’s actually one of the better parts of my days. But I’m also working on some things that are a bit bigger than anticipated, and I will need to take a break.
So, here’s the plan. I’ll be finishing out this week (YAY!), especially as I didn’t write a post yesterday. I will post Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week, but then I’ll be taking the rest of the year off from blogging and be back again come January 4, 2021. I also plan on revamping my site just a bit, maybe figuring out a new theme and set up, as I’ve had this one since I’ve started blogging and come on, I need a new look! Don’t worry though, if you do decide to leave comments or tag me in anything, I will still be around to respond. I don’t want to stop interacting with everyone, I just need a bit of a break and a rest and then I’ll be coming back strong come the new year. And I’ll have an announcement that should be pretty exciting as well!
That’s it for today though, so I’ll just sign off here and I’ll see you all tomorrow! And let me know what you’re plans are for the end of the year. Are you going to be taking a break, or full steam ahead? Let me know and I’ll cheer you on either way!
Happy Holidays from Tiny Navajo Reads! Hope Your Holidays are Happy and Bright!
Hey guys! It’s the first Monday in December and today is all about the November update. What I read, how much I read, and what my plans are for reading in this last month of the year. I hope that you all had a good November and were able to enjoy what you read as well. Anyway, here we go!
In November I read 2 audiobooks, 1 graphic novel, and 4 books for a total of 7 books. Yeah, not my best, but I am okay with that. I’m learning to give myself a little grace when it comes to reading. I read Ghost Wall,Matilda,Dawnshard,Rhythm of War,From the Roots Up, The Color of Magic, and Apple in the Middle. I enjoyed all of these books, and I will say that there are some good ones in here.
My plan is to just continue with what I’ve been doing these past few months and just read what I feel like reading when I feel like reading. It’s helping me get past my unexpected reading break and I’m actually enjoying the books I’m reading for longer. What are you reading plans for December? What books do you plan on reading for the winter? Comment below and let me know!
Hey guys! How was your Halloween? How was this past week for you? All I can say is that I’m glad that this past week is over because we had a huge ice storm and it was NOT fun. We lost power for a while, but we were the lucky ones in that we got it back relatively quickly. There are still some people without power in my city, but I am grateful for a gas fireplace and a gas stove.
Anyway, as today is now November, it is time for my October update, where I tell you all about the books that I read throughout this month and what my maybe plans are for this month. Being very honest, I didn’t read a whole lot this month, but I’m okay with that. No need to be a speed demon with reading all the time, sometimes you need to take a break and focus on something else.
My reading plans for this month: Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson! This book comes out in just a few days and I’m so excited for it! I’ll most likely be getting the ebook version of it as soon as it releases so that I can just carry it around with me and read all of it! I also have assigned myself to do a book talk for it, so another reason for me to focus on it more than I normally would this month. Other than that, no real goals, just reading what I feel like reading. And if I don’t want to read, then I don’t have to read.
This year has been a hard one and with it being Election Year on top of everything else, I think that I can give myself some slack and allow myself to play video games or watch YouTube videos if that’s what I want to do and not read, if I don’t want to read. And that’s something that I think we all need to do, is be a bit more lenient with ourselves this year because this year has been HARD! And through no fault of our own.
So yeah, that’s my plans for the month. What about you guys? What are your reading goals for November? Anything exciting planned for the holiday season? Comment below and let me know!
