Cookie Policy

The TimoDesk Cookie Policy lists the cookies and browser storage this website uses, what each one is for, and how you can block or clear the ones you do not need.

The short version

Three kinds, one from Google

This is a short summary, not the full policy. Most of what this site stores keeps your visit working and secure. The Google tags are the part you may want to act on.

Essential
Always on
A session cookie and a security token. Our forms need them, so they cannot be turned off.
Google tags
Analytics and ads
Google Tag Manager and the Google Ads tag count visits and show which ads brought you here. You can block them in your browser or with Google's tools.
Affiliate code
Partner links only
If a partner's link sent you, we keep their code for 60 days so they get credit if you sign up.
Sold to anyone
Never
We do not sell cookie data, and we do not show ads from other companies on this site.
01

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can remember something from one page to the next. Some cookies are needed for a site to work at all. Others help the people who run the site count what happens on it.

A website can also keep small notes in your browser's local storage. This works much like a cookie, but the note stays in your browser and is not sent to our server with each page. This policy covers both.

This page covers the TimoDesk website, timodesk.com. Cookies set inside the TimoDesk apps are covered in their own section below.

02

Essential cookies

These keep the site working and secure. We set them ourselves; no other company sets them. You cannot turn them off and still use the site's forms.

  • timodesk-session: tells our server which visit a page request belongs to. It expires 2 hours after your last page view.
  • XSRF-TOKEN: a security token that stops another website from sending a form in your name. It also expires after 2 hours.

They hold no advertising ID, and we do not share them with anyone.

03

Analytics

Every page of this website loads Google Tag Manager. It is a Google tool that loads the measurement tags we set up in our Google account, such as analytics. These tags may set Google cookies that show us which pages people read, which pages they leave quickly, and roughly where visitors come from.

We look at totals only. They tell us if a comparison page is useful, or if a feature page needs a better link because few people reach it. We do not use this data to build a profile of you as a person.

We also keep our own simple count of visits on our server. It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view it records the page, the site that sent you, any campaign tags in the link, your IP address and rough location, and your device and browser type. To count unique visitors, it uses a code made from your IP address and browser that changes every day, so it cannot follow you from one day to the next.

04

Advertising cookies

We advertise TimoDesk on Google. Every page of this website loads the Google Ads tag, which sets Google cookies.

Their job is to tell us when someone who clicked one of our ads later took a step here, such as starting a trial. This shows us which ads are worth paying for, so we can stop paying for the others. Google reads these cookies, and we see the results as totals in our Google Ads account. Google may also use them for its own purposes under its own privacy policy.

In plain words The Google tags help us more than they help you. We do not sell cookie data, and we do not show ads from other companies on this site. Blocking the Google tags does not change how the website or the product works for you.
05

The affiliate referral code

If a link from one of our affiliates brings you to TimoDesk, we remember which affiliate sent you for 60 days, so they get credit if you sign up. Nothing is stored if you did not arrive through an affiliate link. It works in two places:

  • On this website, we keep the affiliate's code, a click number and the time of the click in your browser's local storage, under the name tdsk_aff. We add the code to the sign-up links on this site. After 60 days we stop using it and delete it on your next visit.
  • On the dashboard and the partner portal, a cookie also named tdsk_aff holds the same code and click number for 60 days. It is set for all timodesk.com addresses, so the dashboard can read it when you sign up.

If you click a newer affiliate link, it replaces the older code. When you create an organization, that organization is credited to the affiliate and the dashboard deletes the cookie. We never use the code for advertising. The Affiliate Policy explains what we record about the click.

06

Cookies in the app

The TimoDesk dashboard (dash.timodesk.com), the client portal (client.timodesk.com) and the partner portal (partner.timodesk.com) are separate apps. Each one sets its own essential cookies: a sign-in session cookie and a security token. If you tick "Remember me" when you sign in, a longer-lasting cookie keeps you signed in. If you block these cookies, you cannot sign in.

The dashboard also sets a few small working cookies:

  • tdsk_aff, the affiliate cookie described above
  • One that remembers you chose to hide the browser extension prompt
  • One that notes you were already counted as an active member for the current billing period, so you are not counted twice
  • referral_code, which keeps the code from an older invite link (dash.timodesk.com/join/...) for 72 hours

The apps also keep a few display choices in your browser's local storage, such as whether the sidebar is collapsed and how a project board looks. The apps do not load Google Tag Manager, the Google Ads tag or any other analytics or advertising tag.

This policy does not cover what the product records about tracked work. That is covered by our Privacy Policy and our Data Policy.

07

How to control them

This website does not have its own cookie settings panel. You can control cookies and browser storage in these ways:

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings, for every site or just for timodesk.com. Most browsers keep this under privacy or site settings. Clearing the site's data also removes the affiliate code from local storage.
  • Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which stops Google Analytics on every site
  • Turn off personalized ads in Google's My Ad Center
  • Use a content or tracker blocker, which stops the Google tags from loading at all
  • Use a private window, which deletes its cookies and storage when you close it

Some Google cookies are stored under this site's own name, so blocking only third-party cookies in your browser may not stop them.

If you block essential cookies, the contact form and other forms on this site will not work. Blocking the Google tags does not change how the site works for you. Clearing the affiliate code does not either, but the affiliate who sent you may not get credit for your sign-up.

08

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, we update this page. If the change is significant, we will also tell you in TimoDesk or by email.
