The U.S. national debt has crossed the $40 trillion mark — and the Trump administration is already pointing fingers over how America got here.Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent blamed the Biden administration, saying, “We were left with a mess.” President Donald Trump, meanwhile, offered a far more optimistic answer when asked about the staggering debt, saying: “Growth will take care of that very easily.”
