A 75-year-old retired professor allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Ganga river. His body was recovered by divers near an under-construction bridge close to the barrage. Police stated the professor was reportedly facing a case under the SC/ST Act. He was reportedly under stress over the ongoing legal proceedings. The Ganga Barrage has become a frequent spot for such unfortunate incidents.
