Dilip Kumar, the veteran Indian actor was born as Muhammed Yusuf Khan. Kumar changed his name as it was the Hindu era in Indian Cinema back then.

Dilip Kumar made his Hindi film debut in 1944 with the movie Jwar Bhata which was produced by Bombay Talkies. Kumar's career spaned over six decades where the actor gave multiple hits such as Madhumati, Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Ram Aur Shyam, Karma and others.

His portrayal of the doomed lover in films like Andaz, Baabul, Deedar, Jogan and others earned him a nickname 'tragedy king'. The 1998 film 'Qila' was his last appearance onscreen.

Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1991 for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. He was also awarded Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.

The iconic Bollywood actor has twice fallen to internet rumours about his death.

First, in December 2016, when he was rushed to the Leelavati Hospital of Mumbai after he complained of swelling in his right leg and fever. His wife former actress Saira Banu accompanied him. This was just before his 94th birthday on December 11, 2017.

Second rumour spread during August 2017, when the veteran actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital again due to dehydration and urinary tract infection. During the Eid 2017, the 94-year-old grabbed a lot of attention when he took to Twitter to wish fans on the occasion. In the picture shared on social media, Kumar looked extremely weak.
