Mahindra has become the first Indian carmaker to build a Google Cloud AI agent into a production vehicle. The company announced TEQ_Talk on Independence Day, a conversational voice assistant that debuts on the new BE 6 SPORTEQ series and runs on the automotive agent in Gemini Enterprise. It handles more than 200 vehicle functions, covering navigation, entertainment, news, climate and cabin controls, and the owner's manual.
The assistant sits inside MAIA, Mahindra's own AI architecture, now rebuilt around Gemini models instead of a fixed list of trigger phrases. That is the real change. A driver no longer has to remember the exact wording the car expects. Say "Hey MAIA, it's a little cold in here" and the system works out whether to adjust the AC or shut the windows. Ask to see the stars and it may open the sunroof instead of reading out a weather report.
Google Cloud calls this its first automotive AI deployment in an Indian software-defined vehicle. Sashi Sreedharan, Managing Director of Google Cloud India, said the partnership lets Mahindra offer more natural conversational interactions across navigation, search, media and communication, and described it as the beginning of what agentic AI can do in the car.
Binoy Paul, who heads product development for software solutions and technology at Mahindra, framed it as an evolving platform rather than a one-time feature drop. New agents for drivers and passengers can be added over time, he said, which is the whole argument for a software-defined vehicle in the first place.
