A new report by The Times of Israel, citing Iranian and Western sources, claims Tehran considered launching a military strike on a Ukrainian Black Sea port after Ukraine targeted an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea on July 25. According to the report, Iran weighed a symbolic ballistic missile strike intended to send a message without triggering a broader conflict. The plan was reportedly shelved following diplomatic contacts between Tehran, Kyiv, and the European Union. The reported episode comes after Ukraine struck an Iranian cargo vessel in the Caspian Sea, an incident that Iran condemned as an act of aggression. Tehran summoned Ukraine's chargé d'affaires, while President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had achieved "very good results" in long-range strikes against vessels transporting military cargo linked to Iran.
