She ruled the box office in the 90s, gave praiseworthy performances across different genres, and today, with OTT, she plays more complex characters. She is none other than
Raveena Tandon, who continues to reinvent herself with effortless grace. The actress has recently made her way back to the big screen with ‘Welcome To The Jungle.’ In addition to her big-screen comeback, the movie reunites her with her 90s co-star
Akshay Kumar. Their pair was one of the blockbuster jodies of Bollywood back in the day, and thus, to see them in one frame together gave the perfect dose of nostalgia to the fans. Reflecting on this reunion, Raveena said, ‘Old camaraderie just naturally clicked into place.’
Raveena Tandon's on working again with Akshay Kumar in ‘Welcome To The Jungle’
Speaking to us exclusively, Raveena shared, “We have done some of the biggest iconic films and songs together in the 90s. He is just as disciplined, professional, and full of energy today as he was back then.”
“The moment we shared a frame again, that old camaraderie just naturally clicked into place. It was wonderful walking down memory lane while creating something entirely fresh for today’s audience,” she added.
‘Welcome To The Jungle’ is a multi-starrer movie, with several famous faces in the lead. When we asked Raveena what made her say yes for the film in the first place, the actress shared, “People often ask me why I’d join a film with such a massive ensemble cast. But for me, that was the biggest draw! Welcome to the Jungle is pure nostalgia mixed with absolute madness.”
She continued, “Cinema, at the end of the day, is about entertaining the audience.
When you have a canvas that big, with so many incredible actors bringing their own comic timing to the table, the energy on set is infectious. It’s like a giant family picnic where everyone is trying to make each other laugh. I just couldn't say no to being a part of that joyride.”
Raveena Tandon says comedy is a serious business
As the conversation continued, Raveena mentioned how comedy is tougher than drama. “I will say comedy is serious business. Drama requires you to tap into an emotion, which is hard, but comedy? Comedy is all about precision,” she highlighted before adding, “It’s an exact science of timing, a fraction of a second here or there, a slight change in your facial expression, and the joke falls flat. If your co-actor doesn't feed you the right energy, the scene is gone.”
Raveena Tandon believes it is a wonderful time to be an actress in Indian cinema
Last but not least, we asked Raveena about her game plan. Is she happy with what she is being offered, or does she wish to plan things by herself? To this, she said, “This is a beautiful time to be an actress in Indian cinema. The kind of scripts being written today, especially on OTT, are phenomenal.”
“I am getting to play characters with real grey areas, strength, and substance, like what you saw in ‘Aranyak’ or ‘Karmma Calling,’” concluded the actress.
