Visakhapatnam: A police constable was killed, and three more police personnel sustained injuries when their vehicle overturned due to brake failure at Gajularega Hill in Vizianagaram district on Sunday.
The accident occurred when the team was on its way to a crime investigation. The dead constable was identified as Sira Venkata Ramana (49). The injured were sub-inspector V Ashok Kumar, head constable G Nagendra Prasad, and constable-cum-driver K Rajababu.
Police said the vehicle was heading to a place in connection with an investigation of a case when the driver lost control due to brake failure on the Gajularega hill stretch. The driver’s alertness helped prevent a bigger tragedy despite the crash.
Doctors said constable Rajababu required surgery for a waist injury, sub-inspector Ashok Kumar sustained a fracture to his left leg, and head constable Nagendra Prasad suffered a fracture to his left arm.
Vizianagaram district police chief AR Damodhar visited the hospital where the injured were availing treatment and enquired about their condition.
