Man dies in Vizag after alleged assault by family over flowers theft

Visakhapatnam: A 36-year-old man, D Raju, who was admitted to KG Hospital in Vizag after allegedly being assaulted by a family on suspicion of theft a few weeks ago, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. His death triggered a protest by his family members and relatives at the market in Kancharapalem. The protesters also allegedly attacked the flower shop owned by the accused family.According to reports, Raju allegedly stole flowers from a shop operated by S Laxmi and her sons, S Manikanta and S Sumanth. After branding him a thief, Laxmi and her sons allegedly tied Raju to a pole and assaulted him, causing severe injuries on Aug 9. Raju was subsequently admitted to KG Hospital. Kancharapalem police registered a case and arrested the trio.Raju succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Sunday morning. Following his death, his family members allegedly attacked Laxmi’s shop and demanded stringent action against the three accused.
