Vijayawada: Police have registered a case and launched a hunt for a former corporator and his aides allegedly involved in the assault of a police officer while he was on duty near APSRTC bus stand premises in Guntur.
The incident occurred within the limits of the Old Guntur police station and triggered concern after a security officer employed at APSRTC was allegedly attacked by a group of men. According to police, the officer was confronted by the accused and allegedly assaulted during the altercation.
The accused reportedly chased the officer when he attempted to move away from the spot and continued the assault. The incident is said to have taken place in the presence of a police officer, who allegedly failed to intervene immediately.
Following the incident, police registered a case and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault. During the course of the investigation, police reportedly identified a former corporator and his aides as the accused.
Police officials have formed special teams to trace and apprehend the accused, who are reportedly absconding. The teams are making efforts to establish the whereabouts of the accused and secure their arrest.
The incident had initially raised questions over the delay in police action, with concerns being expressed about the safety of officials while performing their duties.
