Elderly couple kills son as land dispute turns fatal in Andhra Pradesh’s Tenali

Vijayawada: A long-running dispute over a 2-cent plot turned into a deadly family confrontation at Nazarpet in Tenali town of Andhra Pradesh, where an elderly couple reportedly killed their elder son after years of alleged harassment and repeated clashes, police said.According to a preliminary probe, Bhaskara Rao and his wife Vijayamma own a two-cent plot that allegedly became the centre of a prolonged dispute with their elder son, Koteswara Rao, who had been insisting that the property be transferred into his name. He used to frequently fight with his parents over the issue.Neighbours told police that Koteswara often returned home in an intoxicated condition and engaged in verbal altercations and physical intimidation of his elderly parents. Locals stepped in several times in the past, tried to counsel him and settle the dispute, but their efforts failed to bring lasting peace within the family.The tensions reached a breaking point on Wednesday night when Koteswara again came home drunk and picked up a fresh argument with his parents. During the confrontation, Bhaskara Rao and Vijayamma allegedly attacked their son with a knife, leaving him with fatal injuries, police said.Following the incident, the family attempted to transport Koteswara’s body in an autorickshaw. However, their actions raised suspicion among local residents, who intervened, stopped the vehicle, and informed the police.Police officials visited the spot, secured the crime scene, and shifted the body for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and an investigation launched into the circumstances surrounding the death. Bhaskara Rao, Vijayamma, and their younger son Mariadas have been named as accused, and police are probing their respective roles in the incident.Multiple aspects connected with the incident are being examined as part of the investigation, including the history of the property dispute, allegations of domestic abuse, and the sequence of events leading to the fatal attack.
