Woman accuses father-in-law of sending obscene messages; case registered
HAMIRPUR: A woman in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur has filed a case against her father-in-law, accusing him of molesting and sending obscene messages and videos through social media, police said on Thursday.According to the complaint, the woman has been staying at her parents' home in a village in Hamirpur district for the past 10 months because she did not feel comfortable living at her matrimonial home.She alleged that on November 3, 2025, her father-in-law sent her an obscene video from his Facebook account. She claimed that she immediately blocked him after receiving the video.The woman further alleged that on January 7 this year, her father-in-law came to her parents' house, saying he wanted to speak to her. During the meeting, he allegedly took her aside, threatened to kill her if she disclosed the messages and videos he had sent, and then molested her when she resisted.In her complaint, the woman said she did not approach the police earlier because she was afraid and worried about social stigma.Police said the allegations are being investigated thoroughly. Officials said digital evidence and all other available material will be examined, and further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
