JMM prepares statewide protest against bill
Ranchi: JMM would on September 7 protest the passage of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, by Parliament, in all blocks of the state, sources said.
JMM general secretary Vinod Kumar Pandey, in a letter to all party cadres on Saturday, directed them to chalk out plans for the scheduled protest.
“During the Aug 20 party meeting, it was decided to highlight the financial losses Jharkhand is going to incur due to the Bill through booth-level awareness meetings across all 24 districts. The party also decided to organise a day-long protest on September 7,” he said.
State finance minister Radha Krishna Kishore said, “The state govt is bearing an additional financial burden of Rs 4,000 crore due to GST rationalisation and Rs 8,000 crore following the implementation of the VBGRAMG scheme. Following the passage of the MMDR Bill, the state is slated to bear another financial burden of at least Rs 14,000 crore, taking the total burden to Rs 22,000-25,000 crore per year.”
Pandey appealed to party workers to actively participate in the programmes and ensure their success.
