Dumka woman held for killing 5-year-old son, dumping body in well

Dumka: What first appeared to be an accidental drowning of a 5-year-old boy in a village well in Dumka district has turned into a murder case, with police arresting his mother for allegedly killing her child and disposing of his body to conceal the crime.Doli Kisku, 24, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing her son, Aman, whose body was recovered from a well near his maternal grandparents’ home at Dhobarna village under Gopikandar police station limits on June 21.Investigators initially suspected that Aman had fallen into the well. However, post-mortem findings and inconsistencies that emerged during questioning led police to examine the circumstances surrounding his death more closely.“Several people were questioned after we got the post-mortem report. During interrogation, the child’s mother admitted to killing him and dumping his body in the well to make it appear that he had drowned accidentally,” Gopikandar police station officer in-charge Sumit Kumar Bhagat said.Police said Doli had been staying at her parental home since her marriage and was unwilling to return to her husband Nicholas Kisku’s house in Bhindivan village, also under Gopikandar police station.On the day Aman was allegedly killed, Doli and Nicholas, a migrant labourer, reportedly quarrelled on the phone about her refusal to return. Police alleged that during the argument, she threatened to kill their son. Investigators claimed Doli killed Aman later that night and lowered his body into the well.After the body surfaced, Doli allegedly told police and villagers that Aman had gone to sleep beside her and she did not know when he had left the house. Doli was sent to jail following her arrest. Further investigation is under way, police said.
