Lohagad Fort murder in Pune: Ketan Agarwal's father says they initially rejected marriage proposal, claims Siya's family kept requesting

PUNE: Ketan Agarwal’s father Vishal Agarwal said the family had initially refused the marriage proposal from Siya Goyal because she was only 20 years old. However, after repeated requests from Goyal’s family, they agreed to the marriage proposal.The couple got engaged in February, and Goyal soon became a frequent visitor to the Agarwal household. Vishal said the family, which had known Goyal’s family for nearly 35 years, trusted her completely and never imagined the relationship would end in such a tragedy. Days after Pune Rural Police alleged that Ketan was pushed to his death from Lohagad Fort by Goyal and her friend Chetan Chaudhary, his parents have questioned why their son had to die if she no longer wanted to marry him.“If she didn’t want to get married, she could have simply refused. We would have cancelled the wedding immediately. Why did they decide to take such a drastic step?” Vishal Agarwal said.He added that the couple was supposed to travel to Bali with two others, but Ketan could not board the flight after his passport was allegedly stolen at the airport.Police said, Goyal and Chaudhary conspired to kill Ketan during a visit to Lohagad Fort and later tried to portray his death as an accidental fall.Vishal said the family was devastated by the allegations against Goyal, whom they had accepted as their future daughter-in-law.“We had known Goyal’s family for 35-40 years. We never imagined something like this could happen. All along, we trusted her. We never doubted anything,” he said.Ketan’s mother accused Goyal of betraying her trust and demanded the death penalty for those responsible.“My son is no more. Siya and her boyfriend are entirely responsible. She betrayed me and lied. I met her many times, went shopping and out for dinner with her, yet we never thought she could do this,” she said.The Pune Rural Police said both accused have been arrested and further investigation into the alleged murder conspiracy is underway.
