PPU to install human rights boxes for student complaints

Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has decided to install ‘human rights boxes’ at its headquarters and affiliated colleges in Patna and Nalanda districts, enabling students to submit complaints and suggestions confidentially.PPU registrar Abu Bakar said the decision was taken at a review meeting of the Human Rights Commission held at the university headquarters on Friday. The meeting was chaired by vice-chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh and attended by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) special mentor Kanhaiya Tripathi.The meeting, the first of its kind at PPU, focused on strengthening human rights awareness and gender sensitisation among students and teachers. Discussions centred on ensuring equal opportunities and creating a supportive academic environment for students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.PPU examination controller Manoj Kumar said the human rights boxes would allow students to raise concerns without fear of their identities being disclosed. The initiative aims to promote transparency, inclusiveness and a student-friendly atmosphere across the university and its colleges.The meeting also discussed ways to spread awareness about human rights, ensure gender equality and provide a safe environment for students to pursue their academic and career goals. Kumar said the vice-chancellor stressed the need for collective efforts by teachers, officials and students to foster a culture based on dignity, equality and mutual respect.NHRC special mentor Kanhaiya Tripathi said human rights awareness should become an integral part of the university curriculum so that students understand the basic principles of human rights.Research scholar Shivam Kumar Parasar welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that it would encourage students to submit complaints, concerns and suggestions without revealing their identities.
