‘Parivartan Yojana’ rolled out in eight UP districts: Min

Lucknow: Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Parivartan Yojana, aimed at controlling air pollution and promoting environmental conservation in National Capital Region (NCR), has been implemented in Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Hapur, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts of Uttar Pradesh, said minister of state for transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh.The minister said the scheme, which was implemented on July 8, entails replacing goods vehicles and buses belonging to BS-I, BS-II, BS-III and BS-IV categories with BS-VI diesel, CNG or electric vehicles to promote a transport system that is clean, safe and eco-friendly.Parivartan Yojana also provides for a one-time incentive ranging from Rs 64,000 to Rs 2.56 lakh for the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs). The scheme also includes a provision for vehicle manufacturers to offer a discount of up to 8% on the purchase of new BS-VI-compliant vehicles.Owners of the eligible vehicles will receive a Certificate of Deposit (CoD) upon scrapping their vehicles. This certificate will entitle them to a 100% exemption from vehicle tax and registration fees, as well as a 100% exemption from road tax for 10 years, on the purchase of new BS-VI vehicles.Furthermore, owners scrapping these vehicles to purchase BS-VI replacements will be eligible for a complete waiver of outstanding revenue dues accumulated prior to the preceding year. Buyers of BS-VI vehicles will also receive a 5% interest subsidy on loans and fuel vouchers valid for five years.
