Lucknow: Police on Saturday arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old woman whose body was recovered near a railway track in Deoria.
The accused, a resident of Bahraich district, was arrested and produced before a court which sent him to judicial custody.
Police said the knife used in the murder has been recovered.
Police said that the woman and the accused were relatives and were in a relationship.
During interrogation, the accused claimed that the woman, who was married, had been forcing him to marry her.
On Aug 18, the woman called him to meet her near a railway line. The two got into an argument over some issue after which the man attacked her with a knife. She died on the spot.
After killing the woman, he dumped the body near a railway track and fled the spot.
The incident came to light after the station master informed Salempur police late on Aug 18 that a woman’s body was lying near a railway track.
On the complaint of the woman’s brother-in-law, police filed an FIR.
During investigation, police questioned people known to the victim and traced the accused at his uncle’s house.
Following the recovery of knife, police added relevant provisions of the Arms Act to the case.
Salempur circle officer Gaurav Singh said, “The accused has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events.”
