A tragic turn of events unfolded at a Malvan resort when 25-year-old Shrenik Milind Takale drowned in its swimming pool on June 23.
KOLHAPUR: A 25-year-old man drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Malvan, Sindhudurg district, on June 23, turning a weekend getaway with friends into a tragedy. The deceased, Shrenik Milind Takale, was a resident of Ishwarpur town in Sangli district. His father is a retired English teacher. Trained in silver ornament-making for the past two years, Shrenik was on the verge of opening his own jewellery shop. He is survived by two married sisters. Takale had travelled to Malvan with nine friends for a vacation and the group checked into Malvani Pahunchar Restaurant and Resort on June 20, arriving between 4 pm and 5 pm.
The incident occurred around 3 pm on June 23, shortly after lunch. Takale jumped from a 7-8 feet high podium into a section of the pool with a depth of only 4 feet — a portion meant for children — while his friends were already in the water playing games and listening to music. When he failed to resurface, his friends rushed to pull him out.He was found unconscious and rushed to the Rural Hospital in Malvan, where he was declared dead before reaching the hospital.Police sub-inspector S S Khade of Malvan Police Station confirmed that an accidental death case has been registered and investigation is underway. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, with the exact cause of death to be confirmed after the medical report.
