Light rain fails to bring relief, sultry conditions persist in city

Times News NetworkKanpur: City continued to reel under sultry weather conditions on Sunday as the city remained largely dry despite a cloudy sky. Intermittent sunshine pushed the maximum temperature to 33.8 degree Celsius, which was 0.6 degree higher than Saturday’s temperature.The minimum temperature, however, dipped to 25.4 degree Celsius following light, isolated rainfall in parts of the city on Saturday evening. A few pockets received light rain for a few minutes in afternoon, but it failed to provide any relief from the humid and sultry conditions.The CSA weather observatory recorded maximum relative humidity at 86 per cent. North-westerly winds blew at a speed of 3.4 kmph but were not strong enough to provide relief to residents.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly cloudy skies over Kanpur Nagar during the next 24 hours, with rain or thundershowers likely at one or two places. Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue due to active monsoon conditions.SN Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said partly to heavily cloudy skies are likely to prevail over the next five days, with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. He added that humidity would remain high whenever sunshine appears.
